What do you think about Youtube Community?

Hey Guys! Some of you may have heard that Youtube is testing new features , and soon will release them for the public. Feature which I’m talking about it’s still in beta, and it will be available for all very soon. The new tab “Community” on your youtube channel, will let you post things like, text, images, videos,GIFs, same things that you can post on facebook, twitter or any other social media.

What do you think about Youtube Community?
Community it’s a great feature, and I think that all youtube users will have many benefits from this, as people love Youtube. Another good thing from this feature is that, users can opt-in to your post to get notification anytime you post.

See beta release here : https://www.youtube.com/user/vlogbrothers/community

Hope we’ll see new options as it’s still in beta release…

Nice one Pro. YouTube is a social networking community after all, even though it's mainly based on videos, so a user timeline like all other social networking sites have will make it more like a real social networking site. I like how you can post virtually anything to it in the same way as you can with any other social networking site. Not just videos. But images, pictures, gifs, just random updates etc. If you ask me, this has been a long time coming and they should have added this feature many years ago already. But better later than never I guess!

What I don't get is how they are calling it "Community". Because sure, people can comment and like on your updates. But YouTube is a community. And this part of your profile is essentially a timeline. I think therefore, they should have called it "Timeline". As it's kinda contradictory as YouTube is a community and this is just a part of your Channel that makes up the whole community. If you know what I mean.

Yeah I just think they should have called it "Timeline" or something similar. But it's still cool anyway and could be used in a lot of good ways. One is just making an update each time you upload a new video and the other is just another area to kind of "mini blog" in.

We'll have to see how this pans out when it goes officially live. What do you think about Youtube Community?

I know exactly what you mean Mike, and I don't get it either why they are calling it community. When I first read the announcement by Youtube I thought they were talking about youtube community, because Youtube it is already a community with or without that feature. I Agree with you, and I think that "community" it's not the right word to call their new "social network", now I'm not complaining, because that feature it's just a good thing that is happening to Youtube.

Yeah, as Mike said, timeline would be much better name for it...
Anyway, since YouTube is very popular community and social network, i believe this is very good addition to it, and this feature can bring a lot of popularity, traffic and business to every one. Since Google Plus is feeling like hunted city, this is awesome to have.
I personally hear about this new feature for first time and somehow i feel this can be much more poplar for many people then Facebook. Posting links, photos, articles etc... can bring a lot of power to everyone seriously involved in this. So as soon it's publicly available, i believe i am going to play a lot with this new social media toy What do you think about Youtube Community?

They should have asked us before calling it "Community" lol

Yeah "community" sound like not something new, I mean we have a community tab in our dashboard youtube channel, and maybe they will implement this feature in the same place.

However, name doesn't matter after all because it's a great feature.

Yes Lynne, it is really a great feature. Your Youtube channel is very active, and it will become more with this feature. Community it's not the only unreleased feature, the material design also it's not released yet, I'm not sure when they have planned to make them available for all, but I think very soon since they have presented the beta release.

Community and Material design will give some extra power to Youtube, btw I can't wait for the material design What do you think about Youtube Community?

Oh cool. Very useful feature, rather surprised YouTube actually implemented something useful these days. I'm sure popular YouTubers will make the best of it and will develop and maintain their community conversations. I think these types of "community" discussions were always taken in the comment sections of videos or even on other platforms like facebook for example, so that's why Google has made this move implementing this types of features.

Wonder if only the channel owner can post topics on the Community section. Also, I'm getting the feeling that only hard-core fans will end up there, you actually need to go to the channel page and click this community tab right?

Yeah first this with the new Community section on your channel and the new YouTube Heroes you posted about earlier. It's good to see some innovation from them putting back into the site what it gets out from its users. I see more emphasis being put on getting the viewers and channel subscribers to engage with content and giving channels more ways to express and share content and pull in more subscribers. I see it working from that perspective. Very much like a timeline or blog or our own status updates on here work now. I think that only the channel owners or collaborators will be able to post content/updates to it but people will be able to interact with it, comment on it etc. Depending on just how much will determine whether or not this just turns into a spamfest for spammers to abuse a channels community posts there and I hope that doesn't happen and they end up shutting it down or limiting it somehow as that is what usually happens overtime with these things!

I think lot of channels get trolling and heat on their comment section. The reason being youtube users often have some weird way to respond to the content. And that means you have to find out how to balance such community with proper moderation. I think many such youtube channels use comment moderation. So not a lot of comment pass through. And that should be the way to manage the trolls. Because just like any other social media, this community sometimes go out of hand.

This discussion is 2 years old. They have made some major changes to YouTube. I followed the link provided to see the Beta release. Because I had a custom URL for my Google Plus account, I was given a custom URL for YouTube. But with the changes, the old custom URL disappeared and I had to create a brand new channel. I figured if this "Community" thing was officially launched then it should show on my new channel. But I don't see anything that says "Community". I do see a link that says "Discussion" on my channel. Is this it? (O.o)
