Happy 10th Birthday Facebook news feed!

Oh my gosh, it feels like we have always had Facebook and always had news feed right?

So I saw Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook where he shared a memory from 06 September 2006 where he launched news feed.

I love the explanation he shared about how Facebook didn't come out all at once all fully formed and functional. It was very much a work in progress and the news feed only came out 2 years after Facebook launched.

This just goes to remind us to keep working on our projects, keep adding to our websites and keep innovating and being better.

Happy Birthday Newsfeed!

Ohh I remember Facebook before the News feed! I remember joining it really quite flippantly at the time when social networking sites were taking off. Round when MySpace actually used to be one of the biggest and everyone was using BeBo which is now and pp only and and Netlog which is now Twoo a sort of social networking / dating site and app LOL.

But back then I had no idea, I don't think anyone did. Just how big Facebook would get. Yeah it was kinda cool at the time when you first get on there. Finding friends you haven't spoken to in years, people you used to grow up with or go to school with. Seeing photos and pictures from the past and seeing what those people are up to now and how they are and that. It was cool and nothing really like it.

However, eventually the novelty of it started to wear off a bit. And in fact it started to get a bit too much. Facebook this, Facebook that. Someone likes this someone likes that. It started to turn into more of an infatuation than anything else.

And today it's like some people can't live without it. They can't help but pull down to refresh! To see what the latest happenings are with their friends and family which is cool and we are all guilty of doing it. We wouldn't be human if we never. For those who use Facebook!

But it's like anything in life. It has it's good and bad sides to it. It unites people. It breaks down boundaries by people and races all around the world. It helps people to socialize, even if it's not real physical socializing it can lead to through the things it lets you do like create cause fan pages and events and see what people are going to in the summer etc.

But it can also have it's bad sides too. Such as leading to some people getting fired. Or not even hired in the first place! I was reading something today that was saying about how employers are checking the social media profiles of their current employees and those that they are about to interview to find signs they might not want to! People have lost their jobs or not been hired for posting images of them selves out on a hell bender and passed out in a pile of puke or something. I guess they don't want people like that working for them lol.

But it raises a very good point in that you should be very careful about what you put on social media from a professional perspective. Even from a security perspective by using common sense and not putting stuff about you being on holiday and your house being empty!

But yeah, that's just common sense but it happens and it's all down to Facebook and sites like it!

Oh yes I know exactly what you mean by the types of things that people are posting on Facebook and I couldn't agree more with you, there are some things that just shouldn't be shared on social media at all! I was just chatting to Webguy2024 on the discussion about Whatsapp and the new privacy policy about this. He also mentioned people posting about going away on holiday, but what I find even more scary is people posting pics of their kids on the first day of school, with the kids name and the school... like OMG can you get any more scary than that?

You know all social media networks have a news feed now, so that changed the way that social media works didn't it?

I never signed up with any other social media before Facebook, it was my first and it is still the one I use for my personal social media. I have accounts with all the big social networks, but that is focused only on work even if I have a personal profile.

Wow, the news feed was launched 10 years ago? Seems like it was just yesterday. Time flies by way too fast. Happy 10th Birthday Facebook news feed!

I remember when Facebook still had that basic dated template, you all remember? Remember when you could buy products that didn't have the social network buttons on them? I love going through memory lane, it's a bit nostalgic. Happy 10th Birthday Facebook news feed!

What was Facebook's latest update that was "innovative"? Seems they really haven't added anything new and innovative as up late.

Yes I agree, it feels like yesterday for me too....time does fly when you think of technology now.

I don't think Facebook has added anything really new lately.

Wait, so Facebook didn't have a feed right from the start? I remember I was a pretty late bloomer on Facebook. I always thought to myself this would be another trend that will eventually die out. I had a myspace account back in the day but my main social network was Hi5, most people in my country used it at the time and it was the only real social network we used.

So I created my Facebook account pretty late, somewhere in 2007 but I didn't become active until one year later when everyone abruptly switched from Hi5 to Facebook in a matter of months.

Nope, the only way you could see what was happening with someone in your friends list was to go to their profile and have a look.

You know what? Everyone talks about Myspace and Hi5 but I never even joined those, my first social network was Facebook Happy 10th Birthday Facebook news feed!

Haha well, you are unspoiled by lesser social media networks then. Hi5 was very popular but was awful altogether, full of ads and bad functionalities. I've joined Myspace but never made it my home.

Yes I think Facebook is most certainly the most successful and widely used social network to date isn't it?

Facebook is where almost everyone is at. I heard a lot of teenagers don't want to be on Facebook now because their parents are there and they want to go incognito LOL...but I think by the time they reach their early twenties they will want to be on Facebook to be connected to their family.

I've been using Facebook for the past 6 years and I must confess that I never knew that Facebook started in the year 2006 which makes it a long time that Mark has been running this social media site with the rest of his amazing team. I wish Facebook and their crew the very best on the journey to bring in amazing features that would always users of Facebook have the need to log in every passing day to read friends posts and well as chat with others on a daily basis.
