Being a Local Guide for Google

Google Local Guides is a community that review places all over the world and helps to improve Google Maps. So I decided to become a contributor or a Local Guide because there are some nice benefits in becoming a guide.

Each profile will get points, levels and badges. All those details here. I'm level two at the moment.

Being a Local Guide for Google

Here are my current benefits based on my level:

  • Level 1: 0+ pointsGet the inside scoop with our monthly newsletter
  • Join Google-hosted workshops and Hangouts
  • In select countries, enter into exclusive contests for Local Guides
  • Join the conversation at Local Guides Connect

  • Level 2: 5+ points
  • Get early access to new Google products and features
  • Promote your own meet-ups on the Local Guides calendar

You can check out the other benefits you may get as you increase in level, here.

I think it really worth it, as higher level you really start to get some awesome benefits like free google drive for 1 year or get feature on Google's official channels. Overall this a great thing to have as an SEO, clients would be impressed and you'll be even closer to Google.

What do you guys think about the benefits of becoming a Google Local Guide?
Any of you already doing it?

Hmmm interesting! When I first saw this I thought it was something to do with Local Rankings LOL. But it's cool that it's to do with Google Maps. I see now what it's about, what it's for and how it works. Basically it helps to improve Google Maps places and in turn, Google reward you for doing that with several additional benefits. With more benefits for the higher level you are. I like how you only have to be Level 1 to get access to Google hosted workshops and hangouts. But that the higher level you are, the more benefits you get. You have to be Level 4 to get free Google storage for one year. But they may also feature you on their own Google+, Facebook and Twitter channels. And all of this by simply writing reviews about places on Google Maps and uploading photos of it.

I would imagine this is much more suited for people who do a lot of traveling. Whether just moving around their own country, or for people that go International traveling as well. I guess for anywhere really. Let's say you have to go to a new city somewhere for some reason. You could open Google Maps, check out any fairly close places to you on that map, visit them, take a picture and write a review and earn a point for it.

Good luck with you point making. I'll be interested to see how this plays out in the following months to come. Being a Local Guide for Google

I do like to check out a lot of restaurants and bars, I rarely go to the same place more than once, it has to be very good for me to come back and have that same experience again.

Level 2 was pretty easy to achieve, answer a few questions, place a few reviews and done level 2. From here onwards seems to be more difficult, you also need to provide pictures and I expect more information will be required as I try to achieve higher levels.

I'm also going on 1 week holiday soon, to the mountain side, so hope I'll get at least level 2 by the end of September.

Oh this is interesting Cristian, I am so going to check this out. I bet you that nobody in my country (or very few people anyway) are doing this! I might just like to try this out. Considering that it is Google Maps and they are obviously wanting more information I hope this will be available in my country!

I'm going to check this out tomorrow, thanks Cristian!

I'm sure it's available and I'm sure there are people doing it. That's what I thought at first about my country, but actually there are quite a number of people review really unexpected places with high quality reviews. I'm almost level 3 now, let me know on your progress Lynne! And good luck!

Hey Cristian

Ok so I registered on Tuesday and forgot about it, then when I was doing some errands yesterday I decided to load up Google Maps... and I am nearly Level 2 already!

I find this just way cool.

Is this still available in 2018. This sounds really really interesting. Something I would definitely want to sign up for. I would also want to move up to level 4. Definitely going to sign up for this.I also hope that they are more benefits then the were in 2016 with Google which is now the worlds biggest search engine every little helps. i hope this means getting access to the algorithm so that you are ahead of the game.
