As an internet marketer, how do you cope with these factors (Internet cost, electric supply)?

To be an internet marketer, two external factors are very crucial: The cost of getting internet services and the presence of electricity ; these are some of these factors determine how much time you spent on surfing the internet doing researching, delivering SEO orders etc.
But i want to know how regular is the electricity supply to your house is? And also the internet charges from your internet service provider; is it too cheap, moderate or too expensive or just okay.
I somehow know little about these in third-countries like Bangladesh, India, south Africa, Ghana etc since i stay in one of them but i want to hear from those residing in first-world countries like USA, Germany, Britain, russia etc and those residing in 2nd-class countries like cananda, venezuela, belgum, croatia, ireland, greece etc.
How is the electricity situaton? is it adequate or regular or just okay or scarce or nothing at all. Also the cost of internet services,....is it cheap, costly, moderate or even free?
Thank you
Chetaseo.

Well I am in South Africa which as you know is a third world country. Thankfully the last year (hold thumbs) has been not too bad with electricity but the previous year we had so many electricity cuts that every single day we were without electricity for a few hours. It was ridiculous! The internet well it is okay I suppose, I mean I have internet.. but damn it is slow.

I can't wait for the services in our country to improve because at times it becomes physically impossible to work, who can run a business when you don't have electricity for two to four hours in a day The cost to businesses is just insane.

wow,. south africa!!!, i read a documentary about your country on the issue of electricity supply in that your country generates about 50,000MW which to me is very okay for such country of that size,. but somehow happy that your country is picking up on it. you know, electricity is very important most especially if you have a lot of stuffs to do online like delivering orders, responding to messages etc. but i am sure the government is doing something about it and it will only improve with time..
As per the internet issue, i guess your main internet provider is MTN. i am suprised to see that MTN is slow if it is what you are using. but there should be some other internet providers that you can switch to but it all depends on the cost and availability of signals in your area.
Do you use MTN or any other provider. how much do you buy your data bundle package? lets say 5Gb for how much or something like that?

i will like to hear from you on this.

Oh and I forgot the cost.., well our electricity at home costs nearly R1000 a month and my internet also costs close to that amount too.So that is approximately $70 a month for electricity and $70 a month for internet.

I think that is quite pricey but I am not sure what other countries are being billed?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

chetaseo
yeah, about $70 for internet per monthmaybe quite pricey to you but i feel it is somehow cheaper than other countries because if you say R1000 is about $70, then it should be about R14 to $1 which is very much fantastic to me. in other 3rd world countries, it is about 100 cash of thier curency to $1. and also south africa is the biggest economy in africa too. so things shouldnt be so difficult and costly to me.

I am in the USA and because of my servers and many computers my electric bill is just under $800.00 per month. As an internet marketer, how do you cope with these factors (Internet cost, electric supply)? I need a solar farm because this is a big nut to crack each month!

what of internet services? i presume it should be very fast and cheap in USA since it is the origin of the internet world. but i want to hear from you about it. USA surely is a 1st class country. is the internet fast enough or just ok?,.how about the cost?

I have multiple internet lines. This isn't the issue. The issue is the electricity cost to run all of the the servers and networked computers. The electric bill is big.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

chetaseo
hmmmm,. your electricity bill is big because you are using it mainly for commercial and business purposes. with that, surely you need to be billed higher than other consumers who are mianly using it at home and offices. and even your internet services should also be high too.
Anyway, thanks for your response so far. God bless you.

Well, I try to turn off most lights, and unplug devices that are not in use to lower the cost of electricity. In fact, the only things that are running are:
  • The laptop
  • The lamp that I must have on, otherwise I will get a migraine from the laptop screen since it's too bright
  • The Air Conditioner
  • 2 Fans (doesn't use much electricity)

Most of the things in the house are energy efficient, so they don't use up too much energy. My internet bill is tied into my phone, and TV and that bill is about $120 per month, and the electric bill is near $80 per month. However, my neighbor's electric bill is $200 a month, but that's only because they like to keep their thermostat at 68 degrees, whilst ours is set at 78/79 to lower the bills!

Rarely have power blackouts, maybe like a couple of them each year and it rarely takes more than an hours before everything is back to normal. The electricity bill is not that big, but it is one of the most important bills I get each month so yeah, no really dirt cheap, but yet again I don't use it just for freelancing, how much a laptop can even consume a few hours each day?

As for Internet well, I can't complain really, Romania has really fast and very cheap Internet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

chetaseo
wow,. your country must be really doing very well in terms of good economy and good governance for you to be enjoying all these. I guess that Romania should be in Europe and a 2nd class country. Having a very fast internet is surely one of the basic things a freelancer and internet marketer needs to carry out his online job very effectively and efficiently. And also regular supply of electricity too to avoid any interruption in service delivery. Your case is very much favorable for your freelance job so there is no excuse for any failure at all. Enjoy bro.

No there isn't any "good doings" in terms of economy and governance, a good cheap internet connection is pretty much our main accomplishment.

Sweden, the internet is 100/100 fibre, and my electricity is about $0.12 per Kw

Thank God we do not get power outages that often, about 3-4 a year and it generally gets back to normal after a couple of hours. When I am without electricity I just hope that my laptop's battery and my internet key are fully charged so that I can continue working until electricity comes back. My electricity bill is about $30-40 per month, and since I work from home that includes power consumption for appliances, lights etc. My internet is supposed to be fiber powered, but it is not as fast as they advertise and I often get problems with the modem. My internet bill is about $25 per month.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

chetaseo
wow,. i must say that your electricity bill isnt that expensive. if you are having issues with the modem, you can get a new modem or report to your internet provider if it could be network issues but despite that, the internet cost is also cheap too and i expect the internet to be very fast since it is a fibre type of internet, maybe there are some issues here and there. anyway thanks for your response.

It has not been easy for me in my country coping with electricity and data. I mean it has been such a big task for me for I always spend so much buying data every month and the sad part of it is that the data subscription finishes as quick as I don't always expect and that is not a good way for me to go. I also got a generator that I use for powering my laptop for work when there is no electricity. So, it has not been an easy ride for me.

just like any business, one need to have some basis things to help propel the business and freelancing is not an exception.

in my country, it just about the poor services but the prices are fair enough. I spend approximately $50 monthly.

Internet cost is very high here in Nepal. I live in a village and I don't have many options. I have to use phone internet which is very costly. The volumn based package costs me $20 per month. Electricity is also very unrealiable. I work on a laptop, my laptop can give me 3 hours back up, however, when there is no electricity and the battery drains, I have no option except to shut down my laptop. I have recently bought a spare battery and I can work 6 hours with two battery.

I'm from the Philippines and internet cost is about a dollar per 3 days per online device. So my internet expense is about $20 a month for my 2 mobile plus I do have wifi at home which cost $45 per month. So it's about $65 total per month. My electric bill is $80 per month so internet and electric bills total to $145.
I earn about $300 online per month so I'm left with $155. Which I use to augment my kids allowances and for our weekly Pizza treat. What's great is I'm paying for the whole family's electric and internet bill.

Over here there is no issue with the electricity although the rate increases from time to time. For an internet marketer I guess it is still profitable and less issues than other countries that have very high cost of electricity and intermittent supply. We had experienced that intermittent power outages in 1994 and it was really so difficult especially when you are on the computer.
