Can social media become an addiction?

Alright now i know i am not the only one on SEO clerks with a social media account no matter if it is face book, Instagram, twitter what ever. Now i am not going to lie but some times i find myself distracted by social media at times i even catch my self getting side tracked from work to check my notifications, normal stuff right? Do you think that social media can be considered an addiction for you? Or do you think you could drop it just as fast as you picked it up, and it does not really effect any ones day to day to that extent????

Yes, I definitely think I would be able to stay away from social media! I don't even have a favorite platform, pretty much hate them all. But I have to use them and I have to use the new ones too. You can't work in online marketing and no be contacted on all popular social media platforms, otherwise, you don't exist in anyone's radar.

The only app I find remotely helpful is wazzup, but even this I can replace with a plain old school SMS. And yes, maybe, sometimes, I do waste a couple of minutes surfing facebook, guilty for that, oh yeah, and instagram, lots of beautiful ladies, gotta love the instagram ladies...

haha ladies man.. but on a serious note i think over all i have self control of being on social media and how much i use it, it does not run me at all of course i use it, but it is not nothing to crazy , i know people around me who are glued to screens on a daily basis you would not even think they remember what they look like lol but you know to each is own right or some thing like that , point is i do see that some times it does effect people more then they realize it is good to see you are not one of them.

I have a few friends that spend most of their time on Facebook. They even do product searches on Facebook, you can say that Facebook it's their internet, apparently they don't need anything else, some don't even have a desktop/laptop anymore.

Hi jkeyz2 thanks for your question. You know social media activist day by day increasing over the world and specially Fascebook, google+ instagram, linked is take over on our same work time. Specially youth generation becoming more used to for several social media. So, I think social media now become an addiction over some population. For myself I also always checking notification within my general work. And sometime I do it out of my concentration. When I am going to sleep and as regularly I contacted on several social media and over some years it is going on as routine work and as like an addiction.

I think that social media could be addictive for some people. I only really use social media for business and find that it is addicting seeing if your marketing is working, I do check it multiple times a day. I guess that some people could be obsessing over how popular their account, profile or posts are and maybe they check this too frequently. I suppose, that if social media doesn't interfere with you work, life and health than it is OK. "Variety is the spice of life, moderation is the key". So mix it up and don't do too much of one thing and you will be alright.

Yes social media can be very addictive, there is no doubt about that. For instance, I have several aunts who are in their sixties. They never used a computer - ever. Suddenly, they are literally glued to Facebook from early in the morning till late at night because whenever you post something they are the ones who like or comment practically immediately. I do not think this is healthy, because they went from one extreme to another! And then there are teens who are inclined to post anything and everything, and countless photos and checkins. I just cannot stand it. There needs to be some responsibility in using social media platforms, but some people barely know what that means.

Yeah, most of social media networks are made to be as addictive as it could, so they can have bigger audience and dominate social networks. Most of users are also very addicted, and mostly on Facebook games i guess Can social media become an addiction? Also most people don't even care if they are addicted, while some of them give up after some time. It's sad that so many people spending so much time on social media sites and leaving real life behind, talking to each other over chats and never have time to meat and have coffee together. I guess there is great advantages and disadvantages about that...

Yes for sure it is totally possible to become addicted to social media!

As you know I am an addict and I have been in treatment for it. I have also worked in an addiction rehab. Internet and social media addictions are on the rise.

It is so easy to get sucked into spending loads of time on Social Media, so much so that real interactions can suffer. I have a lot of social networks and I used to spend a lot of time and energy on my accounts. I now like to automate as much as possible and rather spread my efforts with other types of marketing too.

Short answer. Yes.

I believe it can be an addiction and I believe that I've been an addict too. Both addicted to Facebook and Twitter.. Not for ages though, but I was clearly a Facebook addict a couple of years ago. I'm glad that I've stopped using my personal Facebook account. I can't stand all people posting their crappy breakfast pictures and sharing all these other annoying "I'm living my life" BS pictures. I was probably on Facebook like 15 hours per day.. And half of that time, I played stupid Facebook games.. Man, I hate Facebook. YUCK!

Best Regards,
hitmeasap

I use to be on Facebook a lot, then Twitter, and now it's Youtube. I visit youtube the most. I use music apps, messenger apps, and I think that's it. The only thing that distracts me is my Gmail Alert app. It's nice, but it's very annoying, and I can't turn it off. So just imagine going to sleep, and waking up all hours during the night to little beeps, and having to check the emails. Ya, welcome to my life! Can social media become an addiction?

I hope you enjoy the stay, sit down, and drink some coffee because after restless sleep you're going to need something!

To be honest, I am more addicted to Candy Crush than to social media. But I know of so many people who cannot live without their phones that is their link to social media. There's even a couple who separated because of the wife's addiction to Facebook. I'm glad that I can be away from social media for days which means I am not addicted.

I was addicted to Facebooking for a long time now and that is one act that I have found hard to stop up till this stage. However, I have found ways in which I can deflect the time I spend on some of the social media networks and that is by getting busy on other things online. It has been working well for me.
