Working as a unit with other freelancers. Your opinions on it?

I spend my time with my freelance work, which is often solo work; but you know there are times or certain ventures that involve you getting others involved. So my question is, as freelancers how do you feel about working with others do you try to avoid it; avoid being micro managed or if a good opportunity arises do you jump in and take full advantage? I can say for myself i can be a little skeptic at times with working with a partner just because i know what i am doing and what needs to be and if something bad happens i do not have to feel obligated to force blame on any one. Let me hear your thoughts

I tried to work with many writers over time. The result was not that pleasant. There were those who were diligent at first, and slowly they started to lose interest, thus making me take up most of the work and feel more frustrated. There were those who were supposed to do the work well, but they were not able to, thus resulting in extra work for me. So I found out that it is better to work on my own. It is more hectic at times but at the end of the day it is better. I realized it is difficult to find someone you can trust.

and you know i have went through times also were i had to go out and work with other people and it can be tough man i know, trust me the worst is teaming up with some one else that you have high hopes for and they turn out to be lazy doing less work and expecting more, which does not ever make sense and then on top of all that you are the one that is left with every thing extra and what pain and stress can that be right. trust i agree man it is better to be alone than with some one who just takes up space

Oh yes, I had an employee once that did that. She started working really well and hard, then suddenly one day I realised I was paying someone a salary and she was literally doing nothing all day!

I don't think I will ever hire an employee again, it scarred me.

I am not so skeptic to team up with someone and work together on some project, but i am skeptic to find right person to work with. If really need to work as a team them i am looking for someone who is dedicated to work and quality, same as i am, other ways it can be messy and hard to provide top quality job to the customers. I have done that in the past, and i am also outsourcing sometime when it needs. For me, it's ok, but again, only if you have really good person to work with, which will not pull you backwards.

ok i get what your saying quality over quantity you rather work with some one who works hard then to get stuck working with a bunch of people who can barely hold there own weight , and that makes complete sense getting a partner can tough some times but when you find that one good one you are in the clear theres nothing like putting two great minds together to achieve one goal , i mean that is what it is all about by the end of they is it not? making sure things get done properly, appreciate your comment

I tend to do a lot of my work with other people. I mainly work with others when I have to outsource something because I can't do it myself or I don't feel comfortable doing it. I can design a web page, but there are plenty of people out there that can do it in half the time and it'll look much better than what I can do lol.

So for me I'm more of a project manager when I'm working with other people. I don't boss them around, I just pay them to do a job and get it done in a certain amount of time. If they don't finish in that amount of time, or the work is shitty, then I remove them from my pool of freelancers that I outsource work to.

I do have a partner who owns 50% of my company and he busts his butt doing a lot of the business side of things while I focus on the marketing side. I love it because I don't have to do anything with taxes, incorporating, payroll, etc. I just sit at my house and play on my computer. When I say "play" it's actually me working Working as a unit with other freelancers. Your opinions on it?

There are a few times when I first started out online when I would be hired into a team of 3 or 4 other freelancers to get a specific job completed. It usually went pretty well because each of us had our own job and we just worked on it by ourselves until we had to get something up on a hosting account. I would mainly talk with the designer because he would have to optimize the code in a way to not piss off the search engines lol.

yea your right man it is always good too call on help where you need it the most and take it from me i am not exactly a web page design expert my self lol but you know with that being said it is just as you said if i know there is somebody who can help in less time and also do a better job then it is my duty to help my self by taking advantage of those opportunities instead of making things harder on myself knowing i could get frustrated and stuck some where down the line .

Hi jkeyz2 thanks for your nice question. I have been working past some years on SEOclerks and before here, I was working as solo freelancer. But, after joining here, I start working freelancing from home to office. And it was not possible to manage all task by me. And I appointed few staff to my office and now we are working as team. So, do not see any skeptic for working as team. If you work widely as freelancer, once a certain a time, you have to change work plan and you do need to hire someone. It should be positive turn to develop business.

see it is responses like this that i really appreciate cause what i see from you is that growth mind set , you know you understand as most do that you get it done your self to make sure it is done right i am sure, but what i did notice what was different is that you understand the importance of a team and why sometimes it is needed , in order to grow the amount of work has to grow and there does come a point in time were you have to take others on as part of the team , so i agree man thank you

As long as you're working with someone who KNOWS what you are doing, and someone you trust. Then there's no problem. At least from my own personal experience. I've trained my workers myself and yeah, I love being "THE" boss. They do whatever I tell them too. Otherwise they won't get paid. It's that simple. As I've trained them myself, I am the one to blame in case any of them are messing things up.

However, I would NEVER work with anyone I can't truly trust. I must be confident. I've faced several failures and scams due to my own stupidity.

With that being said, I truly believe that one can benefit A LOT by having a partner.

Best Regards,

I have worked as a unit by joining freelancers. I was once a part of an assignment where I had to collaborate with other writers. Sometimes when there is a work load and I do not have time to finish the project, I simply hire freelancers to work for me. I take payment from the client and remunerate the freelancers while cutting my commission.

I am a team player and I have proof of it with my job in the office. From time to time, I am assigned to projects with different team mates. And almost always, I was able to get in stride with my team. But in freelancing, I would prefer to work alone because independence is what I like in freelancing. That I can work on my own time and I can take the day off any time I want. If will work with a team then I have to abide by the agreed work schedules and I will be constricted with that.
