Is time travel possible?

I was reading an article about time travel and how it might really be possible.

http://www.physics.org/article-questions.asp?id=131

In theory, I think it's probable, but is it possible or even feasible that we could travel backward or forward through time?

I don't think our current technology has progressed to the point where we could actually make this dream a reality.

I'm interested in any theories which might support this idea.

Simply put, No. I don't believe in time travels and I don't believe we will ever be able to travel in time. I would however, LOVE it, if we could.

Have you seen the movie "Click" with Adam Sandler? He fast forwards a lot, he's entire life basically and the things that happens is actually quite interesting. Well, at least I think so. He missed out on literally hundreds of things because of it, even though he only used the fast forward to skip all the boring nag and whatever. He missed a load of things during the years, and suddenly, he became an old man.

Honestly speaking, I believe something like that WOULD happen, IF you could travel in time, or if you could fast forward all the "boring" things in life. And if you think about it.. A life like that wouldn't be worth living. I know I wouldn't want to live liked that, and sure, it would be nice to skip all the nag and troubles but it wouldn't be worth it in the end.

I don't think I would time travel.. for numerous reasons, and some you listed above:
  1. You could mess up the time continuum.
  2. You can mess up your entire life, or others lives because of your actions
  3. A domino effect would occur for your actions, or timelines would be split into trillions upon trillions of timelines and possible futures
  4. Miss out on events in your actual time frame or time line
  5. Lose track of time
  6. Get lost in time
  7. Can no go back to the moment you left, possibly
  8. What happens if you die in the future? What would happen to the present, or past you?

So many things when it comes to time travel.

Well, im not going to say it is, or isn't. However, long ago our technology today would be mind boggling to those say of the 1700s. Our technology would be too much for them to handle. Now, as technology progresses, so does our drive for theories, even if they appear to be outlandish such as time travel.

If you can replicate the effects of a blackhole, or wormhole, and harness this energy into a technology then time travel would be possible. It would eventually swallow up time around the technology and be a portal of sorts before closing in on itself to due to power of the technology. I'm unaware of how one would navigate to certain time periods, this may still be up for discussion.

I think if you were to navigate to certain time periods, you wouldn't be able to select with period it was. You may have to go where the portal takes you, and you won't be able to come back. So why time travel anyway? How can you get back?!

We always hear that technology is advancing and making leaps, but when it comes to time travel I guess it will only remain a dream because I cannot imagine it to be possible and realistic to come up with something which could make it a reality. If that was the case I would be one of the first to try it out most probably as it has always been my dream to relive my past, especially my childhood. But I believe the past is the past, and we cannot turn back time to go through it again, ever!

No, I don't believe time travel is possible. I do believe since having kids time has sped up and everything is just moving oh so much faster now!

A couple thoughts come to mind when discussing time travel. Back to the future would have to be first, but time travel in reality would be another concept to think about. i don't believe time travel is possible in our lifetime to be honest. theres just too much theories not enough facts on the subject. too many scientist with too many predictions but humans haven't reached that technology yet. theres just too many factors that fall in too play i also believe the lack in knowledge we have also takes part in the simple fact that we don't know enough.

There is no evidence to show that you can travel back in time; yet there is no evidence to show that you can’t. Therefore, our general assumption is that we cannot do it. There is a possibility that this can happen. There are many things in this universe that we don’t know about and you can never be certain that it doesn’t exist. For example, 5000 years ago, no one would of thought about computers, yet here we are. I am not saying that you can time travel and I personally don’t know but I think anything is possible in this universe that we only know very little about.

I have read an article some years ago which was written by Isaac Asimov who is a popular science fiction writer. But I think he is a scientist in real life, am not just sure in what discipline. Anyway, his theory on time travel is not hard to understand because he had applied his knowledge on physics. That means time travel is possible but only on a small scale like a speck of dust. He had cited some experiments with that. I really don’t know what to believe but maybe, just maybe, time travel can be a reality in small scale only. But that would be great already. Can you imagine sending a short note to your father when he was still alive?

I think its possible to speed up/slow down time so that you can travel into the future at a different rate than others. But its impossible to reverse the direction of time, so traveling to the past is impossible.
