Do you change your profile picture often?

The profile picture is one of the most important elements on your profile page. There are some people who change it often, while others do so rarely.

I am curious, what do you prefer to do?

I never change my profile pictures. It's one thing to change it on Steam for instance, which I've done a few times, but I would never change my profile picture when it comes to business. My profile picture and my username are who I am. Changing that when I'm an established and reputable seller, buyer or freelancer in general would equal in a more or less "business suicide", as I would have to start over from scratch again. I have thought of changing my username and profile pictures a couple of times here on SEOClerks, but I just can't. None of you will remember me and even though some users on SEOClerks never heard of me, or doesn't care about my username or profile picture, it's still who I am and it's not that easy to just change it, as I would become someone else, sort of.

Best Regards,

Yes I totally agree with you. Once you have established yourself it would be a pity to start off from scratch again.

That profile picture on Seoclerks is like small branding and should be unique in some way. I am not sure if changing it often is good idea, because most of your previous of future buyers would recognize you by that picture. I personally never changed it. Not sure if there is any benefit in changing it at all

I agree with you anwebservices. I never changed my profile picture on SeoClerks since I joined 2 years ago. I like to keep the same one when it comes to such a site because it has become a part of me after all, and as you pointed out many buyers have got used to it by now. It is sort of my image/brand/logo sort of at this point. Speaking of profile pictures I prefer my buyers, especially the regular ones to stick to the same profile picture because when they change it I end up not recognizing them or thinking it is someone new.

I change all my profile pics occasionally and I usually use the same one throughout all my profiles on all social networks and communities.

Why do I change them? Um I don't know really, I just change them every once in a while when I take a new pic that is nice. Like the one I have now is a pic I love of me and my son.

I am not sure whether changing your profile pic often is a good idea. I must say that I had a very positive response each time I change profile pics. Especially this last one, must be my gorgeous boy.

I never change my profile pictures, I just get so use to seeing my profile picture there. Users will be able to know it's me there without even seeing my username. However, my profile picture is so old, and I hope to update it in the future. I may actually include a real photo, not an avatar of myself. The actual avatar was suppose to be me in a artistic form, but my appearance has changed drastically since I created that avatar.

I like when users provide their actual photo, it allows me to see what the person looks like behind the user's username. It's always nice to get a glimpse of who you are communicating with. Sometimes buyers feel more secure if they order from a user whom posts their actual photo. Do you think posting your actual photo helps with sales?

Some people post their photo as a profile picture and I agree that it is nice to put a face to a name. It is more personalised and it might actually make you look more trustworthy to prospective buyers. However I do not like to do it personally. I don't know it makes me feel too exposed I guess and I prefer it this way.

Moreover I can't help but notice that some put up a photo of a face which seems too cute/handsome/pretty, which makes me think it is fake. That works the other way round as it makes me think this seller is not reliable.

I think the same way. Some users actually post photos of celebrities as their profile picture. It's irks me when I see this as I know that celebrity is not behind that account. It does seem a bit untrustworthy, and it appears as if they are only trying to bring in sales by having that photo attached to make them seem better or more trustworthy.

If they are using a fake photo on their account, how do we know if their services are actually real? I'm thinking on taking a photo just for the marketplace to apply to my account, to show users that the person behind the username is indeed a real user. I have nothing to hide!

The same goes for people who's using different flags. Instead of showing the real country, they hide it and use another one. This is most likely done by people who's trying to establish themselves as good sellers and being fluent in English for instance.. What I don't understand, is how they don't see, that they won't be able to uphold this facade forever.. As soon as someone asks them a question, they'll blow their cover with broken English etc. That to me is a big no-no, and I would never use such a seller for even a second if I found out they where doing this. I'm from Sweden with broken English. Just take it or leave it. I would never pretend to be someone I'm not. That's what scammers are doing, and they suck.

Oh yes I see this often and I don't like it at all. Rather don't put a picture up at all than use someone elses picture, especially someone famous. It screams of fake and makes me feel untrusting towards that person immediately.

Yes, Lynne, you are spot on! The moment I see a someone using a celebrity's photo I immediately feel untrusting as well. How hard is it for them to either upload their own photo, create their own photo or use a photo that interests them?

hitmeasap, you are very correct about the country flag issue. I wonder what goes though their mind when they use US based VPNs, or proxy services to get the United States flag when you know clearly that they do not live in the United States. There is really no way to stop this kind of action, as you can always change the IP address, so it's hard to actually detect where a user is really from with all these IP changers floating around.

I was wondering what was with all those flags! It just didn't make any sense to me at all.

Another thing that does my nut in is when someone adds a hot young lady skantily dressed.. you know like in a bikini or underwear with her boobs popping out.... I just think what on earth is that person doing? For me as a woman I won't be buying anything from that person!

It is about being relevant and professional. Photos like that tell me that user is either a prostitute or a porn star.... not someone selling a professional service.

I don't think I've seen that here, but I've seen loads of it on Twitter and other websites.

Naked women selling Twitter followers? ummm hahaha

Everett
Well, it's generally to gain more sales from the men. Men would actually buy services from a profile that had those unprofessional pictures. And most times, the person behind those accounts with the half naked women are actually men.

It's all about trying to get the sale. They believe that if they use photos of half naked women than it will increase sales, it's basically tricking them into thinking they are ordering from some gorgeous model or something.

I have no idea what the policy is for the photos, unsure if there is anything that forbids the use of those photos. Perhaps it needs to be forbidden by the Terms of Service if it isn't already.

LOL do men actually fall for that?

Ok so I should remove my profile pics that have me and my gorgeous kids and show my rack?

Then I could make a killing with SEO services.

I dunno hey, I really can't see men buying from someone because of that? Maybe check out their profile but actually buy?

Or maybe you are right, maybe a lot of men do. There are always car ads with half naked women draped all over them... maybe there is something to that.

I just wonder whether men realize that women are now also becoming big buyers in all areas now, online and offline.

If you walked into a car sales shop and you saw all the marketing material had half naked men draped all over the cars would you buy a car there? Or would you get a shiver down your spine and walk out?

I never really change my profile picture once it's set. I do have different profile pictures on different platforms or websites, but they don't change either once they're set.

I don't change them because a profile picture is like a branding play. If you get something to go viral, or you have a popular post on a forum, people will see your profile picture and recognize it later on when or if they see it again.

HI EliteWriter thanks for your nice question. Yes profile picture very importance for any profile and that is show you as what you are? And I am not used to change profile picture very often. But it is depend on network or platform. For example: SEOclerks profile picture. I never like change it. Because, by that picture I able to explained who I am and by same picture many buyer now can identify me very easily and that is unique. On the other hand, if I want to say Facebook or other social media profile picture which not much involve directly my business, Those I change frequently up to my wishes to share on people.

Thanks by Ajlancer

I don’t really ever change my profile picture because the picture itself represents me. I am in the community and people know me as my username but also my profile picture. When they see my profile picture, they will know its me. It is a bit like my logo or brand and changing it will hurt my brand as others will not be familiar with my new photo. Therefore, I never change it and always keep it the same and I want people to remember me when they see my profile picture. This also means it is crucial that you choose a good and the right photo at the very beginning.

I have been using only 1 profile picture since I started freelancing 3 years ago. However there was a time that my files were corrupted that I couldn’t find the profile picture on my phone so I settled for another profile picture. But that secondary profile picture appears only in about 2 or 3 forums that I joined. The original profile picture that I am using is still my official profile picture.
