Do you think forums are social networks?

Are forums social networks?

Forums have both the social and network aspect; forums allows you to socialise with others and is like a network of people who enjoy the same topics/niche. It can be quite easy to add a chat system and arcade to your forum which makes it even similar to social network sites like Facebook. Some people may however disagree as you don’t normally join forums to network with people you actual know in real life. However, once you start engaging in forums, you realise you actual makes friends with people from all around the world without disclosing too much about yourself; something that I probably wouldn’t do on something like Facebook.

Absolutely, I think forums are the first generation of Social Network. Even though Facebook and Twitter etc are important, there are still some forums that I use to network with like minded individuals. The right forums can be important for your business or to network and gain clients if you are a freelancer.

I actually had an argument with someone about how I think facebook is just a custom coded forum. The main thing is that your posts go on your profile and not a forum thread. Your profiles do look a little prettier, but that's about it.

Forums are the first types of communities that you could join online where you could get to know people. I understand that social platforms today are very popular and you don't have to meet new people because you can friend all the people you already know. But back in the day, and still today of course, forums were where you could go to brainstorm or meet like minded people who only wanted to talk about a certain topic.

Forums are still pretty awesome in my opinion, but not all of them can be treated equal since they are all ran by different people or companies.

One of the few differences with forums and social platforms is that on a forum you can use a pen name if you'd like. I'm sure you can use a pen name on social platforms, but people today are using them like it's their own journal or diary and want everyone to know who they are Do you think forums are social networks? I actually had a profile that had a pen name and it was banned after about 3 months because it was found out to be false. I named it after a comic book character so I guess that could be the main reason it was banned lol Do you think forums are social networks?

In the end, I do think that social platforms of today have sprouted from forums and evolved a bit. They're still fancy forums though Do you think forums are social networks?

Forums are social networks in my opinion, and I find forums very useful. On Facebook for instance, everyone knows exactly who I am, where I live and as most people are sharing photos of their dinners and exercises, Facebook also allow us to know how you train and what you eat.. Facebook is like an open diary. Free for everyone to see. (Everyone you allow that is.) I personally don't like Facebook as much as I did a few years back. I rarely use Facebook nowadays.

Forums on the other hand, is the best source (for me at least) to gain knowledge, share tips and to meet potential clients and business partners. And most of my business exists due to forums, so I'm glad people are still using them.

Best Regards,

Forums can be considered to be like social networks as you are after all connecting with people. And to improve on this networking aspect, you also have to note that people get to share probably more than they would on a typical social network. This is because many forums are about certain specific topics or fields of interest, and so those people who are in the forum share that same interest. You get to discuss things and ask questions and so on. So it is more friendly than having a bunch of Facebook friends who only like a post or a picture of yours once in a while.

Totally, I think examinations are the first of Social Network. In spite of the way that Facebook and Twitter et cetera are basic, there are still a couple of discourses that I use to facilitate with comparable individuals. The right talks can be basic for your business or to network and get clients in case you are a pro.

Thanks

I think so yes, and what I like the most is that they are usually very much niche focused. I've found that I have lost all interest in chatting to arb people on social networks and sharing silly images... I like to learn and have much more intellectual conversations. Facebook just doesn't do it for me anymore!

Yes, I think forums are a type of social networks and should be considered as one. People connect on forums, and over a period of time, become social buddies based on same interests.

However, there are a few differences between forums and social networks. In forums, you can opt to be faceless and offer as little or no information about your private life. Social media platforms are built to encourage you to be as open and public as you can about your private life.

How do we differentiate social media with other websites? The main aspect of social media is social networking. You find people, you connect with them and begin to interact. What are forums? A platform to discuss on various topics. You can also make friends or follow other members. Based on these features, I see a similarity between social network and forums. The only difference is forums are more focused on a niche and on social media you can talk about anything.

Somehow, it is. Forums can be considered social networks. The social is there since the community is an online society. And the connection on the boards is a network. Of course, it cannot be at par with social networks for the purpose are not the same. Social networks like Facebook have an open and unlimited scope while a forum is confined to its niche. Nevertheless, the trade mark of a social media is present in the forum.

Yes to an extent because the two have almost the same features.Social network aids communication, interactions, and discussions same with forums.I think the only difference would be that some forums paid users to interact and create discussion, why none of the social networks does this.So for interaction aspect, I believe it the same.
