My host company has a built in downtime reporting service that automatically emails me when my site is down.

Yes internally of course, we are alerted on many ways, and we publish our global uptime publicly on our website yoorshop

No, I use a good hosting... or better said I use a VPS from a good hosting for my main websites so I can stay away from shared hosting
