What type of site ranks best?

Does any specific niche rank better than another? For instance, would a gaming site rank better than one about pets? Does it make a difference what a site's niche is as to whether or not it can really rank?

Just look on Google search and you will see there are millions of sites for every type of niche. I understand what you are asking though. Maybe you want to know which keywords are most popular and searched for. And pretty much, all the big keywords and niches are taken now by ore well established sites.

google does not care whichever niche a site is. it all depends on your type of promotional methods that you make use of to boost your rankings in google. if your promotions are whitehat and google-friendly, your site will surely rank high no matter your niche.

There is no specific niche.
If you have quality content and easy to navigate Google friendly website, you will definitely rank better .

exactly seoguru, you have corroborated my stand on this. Google is no respecter of any site no matter how important or aged it is.

Just from the point of view of the internet user, sites such as Facebook and Pinterest seem to be very popular. So I would say these two sites rank highly for just about any keywords you could be searching.

Also, sites such as Amazon rank amazingly high on almost all keywords that related to products for sale. You can easily search for any product keyword term (such as 'buy dog food) and you will come up with a few pages from Google. Haven't you found that to be true?

It depends on the quality of the site you make. You can't say blogs rank better than a website wrote in PHP! ;)

There's at least one mega-huge website or blog for every niche, whether pets, health, parenting, movies or educational.

Though it seems that some broad niches such as 'freebies' and 'free samples' sites have way more competition than others more narrowly defined niches.

If I were goin to pick one type of site that could rank well it would be a health or medical related site. However for that type of site you will need authoritative information. You can't just make claims on a health site that others are going to rely on if you are not an expert about that subject. Google holds health and medical sites to a higher standard.

I think the ranking of sites by Google or any other search engines does not include the type of site in their algorithm. Based on my study of SEO methods, your ranking in search engines is mainly influenced by the SEO work that you do on your site and that is regardless if your niche is the most popular but if you don’t do SEO work then the ranking will not get high.
