Is spun content really unique content?

How much different than the original article does a spun article have to be? What percentage of the article should you change/rewrite for it to be considered unique, to avoid a duplicate content penalty?

It is better to rewrite unique articles in your own words or create original content rather than using article spinning.

This is my preferred technique, too. It's just as easy to rewrite an article as it is to clean up a spun article and try to make it sound sensible.

SEO copy writing is an ethical method. By unique if you mean that you have to produce a whole new topic, which has not been written by anybody so far, then the chances are quite likely impossible. In SEO, you might often encounter with the term "Unique", that doesn't mean you have pick up such a topic that is untouched so far by any writer. Rather it means that your writing should match with other writing, means it you shouldn't produce a duplicate text. A same topic can be written 100 times, where the main concept will remain same but text should differ.

That's all about spun articles or SEO copy writing

There is rarely any content that is truly unique. Most content that is claimed to be unique by the search engines is just a compilation of various materials - Spun content was first introduce decades ago by encyclopedias. Think about it.....

I did think about... I totally disagree

a. search engines do not make such claims - if any at all
b. content that one ponders and puts to paper rarely infringes on other published content
c. spun content is still not original - you didn't write - you just spun it
d. way too many wm's take shortcuts like spinning content and then claim it's proprietary
c. I can rebut this for days but I don't need to.

My advice is - write from the heart, cite resources if needed, check your work!

Spun content is never an unique content. However, spun content can be an original content. There is a difference between unique content and original content. Unique means there is no other like this one, original means you created this. When you spin content, there will be two version of the same content, one the original content, two spun content. Just by changing language and words here and there cannot make a content unique. However, it the article is entirely rewritten, it can be your original article, original means you wrote this.
