You need to contribute to community before posting links/keywords on other's forum. Once you do that, then slowly you can introduce the keywords you want to promote. make sure you do it slowly and randomly. By randomly I mean don't do it in pattern, as patterns can be easily observed :|

What type of forums are you using for backlinks?

Many forums don't allow any backlinking in signature lines.

To find out if a forum allows signatures, look to see if other members have signature links. If so, there's a good chance you will be allowed to have one too.

As suggested before, be sure to contribute to the community first. You might also try waiting for awhile, such as a week or two before putting up signature link.

Another point which I forgot to mention. Please observe signature links carefully, they can be automated as well. Something like this forum. So, if you are trying to get backlinks only then you might want to check this thing as well ;)

Thoughtfully written forum responses are much better than automated responses produced by software. Just take time to write your best answer to a forum question and then let backlinking in forum signature happen later.

I think you are right just answer some questions and need more time to wait for signature~

After a little time spent on the forum answering questions, other members will start to like you and trust your opinion. The other forum members and even the admin will come to think of you as a valuable part of the community. Then you can put up your signature line (as allowed) and it will be acceptable.

Agree ! Patience is one of the most important factor in SEO. And getting signature backlink comes under seo, so it means you need to be patient.

If you need like 10 or so posts before you can get a forum signature, don't rush.
Your initial posts will certainly give an impression to the admins of those forums. If you rush things out, certainly, the admins can tell that you just want to leave your links there.

Like the others says, create good responses and always stay on topic. Don't spam your links everywhere.

The thing is you need to follow the rules of forums, contribute to the forums, don't post too many which look spammy.. this way you are safe.. don't put link in post or thread but you can use it in signature.

This. Too many posts at once will alert the admin and moderators that you are just trying to spread your link and leave the site after getting to this certain number of posts... Spread your posts between a couple of days or even weeks. That's more natural than posting 20-50 posts a day.

This is the best advice so far. Those first posts are a test and if you do a good job on them, then the admin/mods will assume you are interested in being part of the community and contributing as a real member, not just a link dropper. After all, most mods already suspect new members of only wanting to leave a link for spam. So they are very watchful of new members.

Go into a forum with the intention to help others, not leave links. Over time, if you decide the forum is good enough for backlinking, then take advantage of the signature link option. By then, you will probably have a few hundred posts which will help you more than if you only had five or ten.

Is 10 a standard number ? or it varies from forum to forum ?

Most webmaster forums require at least 20-50 posts before you are allowed a signature line. And, some make you wait a minimum number of days as a member before the signature line kicks in. There's only one forum that I've seen so far which has 10 as the minimum posts required to get a signature line. So yeah, it varies from forum to forum.

OK. So, how will I know if what is the exact number for a forum ? I mean, how do I know how many days or post I need to put signature in forums ?

There will usually be a 'rules' thread on every forum where you post that explains the requirements for signature lines. You can always post the question again, though usually you will just be pointed to the rules thread. Another way to find the signature line requirements for a forum is to search 'signature' or 'signature line' after registering. That will take you to a list of threads that have discussed it.

Barring that, simply pm one of the admin or mods as ask.

Normally, you should think of signature links after you made around 30 quality posts, if you are contributing to the community then there is no point of ban!

Don't you think asking moderator or admin will make them suspicious?
