Google listed as top employer

Google, along with Facebook, was listed as the best employer in the United States, according to a survey that was done by Glassdoor. It has the best pay along with the best benefits. Google was at the top of the list, with the average pay is $119,000 a year. Employees also have access to a free gym, laundry, billards, and pet boarding.

Second place on the list goes to Costco, third being facebook. In 25th spot is ebay.

However, keep in mind what an ex employee of google stated. This ex employee worked at Google for 8 years. They stated that they have never known anyone that took time off or weekends off. So does that mean that for the $119,000 you work pretty much every day of the year.

So what would you say? Would you want to work for a company that was like this? Great pay and excellent benefits but working constantly without weekends off or vacations? Or is that the employees choice? Do they like the work so much that they want to spend all their time there? I mean with a gym, laundry service, pet boarding and more, maybe it is a great place to work?

I'm just wondering if these people who were working year round at Google are recent college grads, such as those without families so they could actually devote their entire life to the job without distractions of family life.

For some, this would be the dream job or at least the one you would want included on your resume. Though Google would be considered top of the ladder, not really a stepping stone on the way up to something bigger. Hopefully you could earn enough money while working on that job to retire early assuming you lived frugally and invested well.

I think that it would be great to have this listed on your resume. It would be a decent job I feel.

Google employees get a lot of fun perks including a climbing wall and a gym and lots of other great things that regular employees would not. But a lot if expected of these people and they are required to produce results. It must really be a high pressure job for that kind of money.

There are people who like to be their own boss. These people will not sacrifice their freedom for any amount of paycheck. Its not the money but the lifestyle that matters.

Yes that is true. There are many freelancers that are sacrificing their time and are not getting paid what they are worth.

From what we are reading, it seems like working in Google is like being in heaven. So much benefits aside from the high salaries. That’s why Google employees are envied and they are considered in the elite group of employees. That is good for the working class because if the other companies will emulate Google’s way of treating their workers then that would be a plus for the economy.
