    All these people giving away freebies

    I read about all these freelancers who are giving away freebies and free work and wonder why.

    Doing a little extra for a customer might be fine but just don't work yourself into a rut and make yourself so tired, giving away all those freebies or you won't have time for clients who would actually pay you more money. Don't sell yourself short if you have talent, get paid for what you do best.

    Writing a few extra words than asked for on an article is just fine. But, I won't actually create entire extra articles for free as that would cut into time I would be doing other work.

    If you're already in the writing mode, there is no reason to curtail yourself. Though you could just as easily break with the first article and create a second part that you would then sell to the same client for more money.

    Sometimes people ask me to write articles for free, saying they will give me a good recommendation to others. I have not taken anyone up on this offer as my work portfolio is already very full of samples.

    Freebies are marketing tools and they are not really free. It's precomputed in the package and that means the freelancer isn't really sacrificing anything.
