I have not been very long on seo clerks, only 1 month so far, and in most of my communication with sellers and buyers I have to explain that I am a woman. My profile picture (that's me) shows a woman, not a man. Does this happen to other lady members here? Is there a stereotype that freelancers are male only?

oh lol! aww! No it hasn't happened to me yet. But, on some forums where I have posted in the past and only used an anime character avatar, I did get referred to as bro. That's usually just on gamer forums though. >.<

I've never had anyone refer to me as bro or sir here on SEOClerks. Then again, I have my own photo as avatar, so they would assume I'm female.

Sure it can be frustrating when people get it wrong like that, but it's a tiny detail and won't affect how many customers you get.

And, really I don't think there is any assumption that freelancers are only male. Anyone can do freelancing if they have access to the internet. And, your work will speak for itself.

An avatar can be very deceptive especially online so a buyer might not really know what your gender is. Also, some societies use the masculine term (him/his/mister, etc) when addressing others and it's not meant as a sign of disrespect. If you do your job, then the buyer has no reason to complain. I am sure the comments are not meant as an insult.

You could sign your private messages and correspondence with your real first name and I'm sure that would alert the buyer to the fact you are female. That would be a subtle way of asking them not to call you by a masculine nickname such as sir.

What you suggested is likely the best idea. I can see how it would be offensive to some, but I don't really think anyone means this language in an offensive way.
