Why does website traffic die in the afternoon?

I've been watching my website traffic stats and I've noticed that about 4:00PM my website traffic decreases significantly. It really drops and doesn't pick back up until about 11:00PM. Even at 11:00PM it doesn't come back full strength but it does go back up.

At about 4:00-5:00AM it picks back up to full strength and then stays steady until 4:00PM. What is the deal? My traffic is global although it is English based.

I thought that it was because of it being primary United States traffic but the second country that visits my site is India. Then Bangladesh and Indonesia.

Any ideas why it dies and what I can do to keep it steady through the entire day?

Maybe your primary audience is taking a break from online to have dinner and watch TV and then afterwards comes back to check into the site. Is this a forum or a static site with daily updated content?

Lunch time is a hectic time and often people have to run errands or they will go out for lunch or meet up with friends. All of these could be reasons as to why you are getting that slump.

Four pm your time, may not be four pm for your site visitors as there are many time zones, even within the United States and that's especially true for India which resides in another time zone. Identify the time zones of your target audience and schedule posts to occur around the time they are most active.

Strange.. for me afternoon is the best time while i getting the biggest traffic on websites. But maybe it's specific of my country

and pages category, that people after work or school prefer to eat dinner in front of the computer instead watching TV

It depends on where or which countries your traffic comes from. If your readers are majority from US, canada, UK, your traffic is 24 hours opposite to Asian time. Vice versa if your traffic is from Asian readers. I noticed my traffic is down in the morning because Americans were sleeping then. However at midnight, traffic goes up because they are awake and blogging. You cannot expect to have a whole day of good traffic unless you have both Asian and American readers.

Website traffic largely depends on the waking hours of your community. If the majority of the members are in your place then probably that’s the reason for the lull hours. Even if you have members in other countries, they probably tend to hibernate when popular members are not logged in. But this is not cause for any alarm, it is normal.

You don't expect people to be online through out the day,they have lives too.Mornings is when people check up sites for current stuff and they blank out to get a life as well.So there's nothing wrong with that.
