Not updating often enough can be a big mistake for bloggers. However, not every blog has to be updated every day in order to remain current.

Not being organized with your blog publishing schedule can be a mistake. Publishing six days in a row and then ignoring your blog for a month is as bad as not publishing at all.

You should pick a day(s) for publishing blog posts that works for you, based on your own time constraints, work schedule and writing style. Other big mistakes is publishing offensive content that drives your visitors away.

NOt posting enough information on a blog can be detrimental to the blog itself.

Blogging too few times a week can hurt. Readers like to see new content added and it will keep them coming back. If everytime they visit the site and it has old content on it, they will eventually stop coming back.

From a reader point of view I can understand the above views on not posting enough, as your readers want to see new content. However, from a blogger point of view it makes no difference in regards to Google, as each post you make stands alone as a static "website", and will be ranked according, if you use good SEO, whether or not you add posts to the blog itself 10 times a day or once every 10 days.

I only post once every 3 or 4 MONTHS, when I feel like I have something to say, rather than just to post for posting sake, and I get the same daily traffic from Google (and other search engines) that I did years ago back when I posted more frequently. The key is to focus on the individual posts rather than the overall blog itself. Especially if your homepage consists of the blog posts, rather than a static page, then your frequent posting will actually hurt more than help, as each post will affect your overall SEO every time you post something, therefore changing your content for SEO purposes.

Either use a static front page, or forget overall site SEO and focus on post SEO instead.

Having a blog that does not go with anything or being all over the place. I like to visit blogs that are all related in one way or another post wise.

Neglecting the blog is the common mistake of bloggers. But I’m sure it is about a valid reason for the neglect. I had been a co-blogger before upon the invitation of a blogger. It was going great until the blogger had lacked the time to run his blog. Another mistake is blogging about a person in a negative way especially if the subject is a celebrity. Anything that is derogatory should be avoided in blogging because that will be a turn off to the readers particularly to the fans of the celebrity.
