    What if someone gave you their blog?

    Let's say, someone gave you their blog but it had massive problems, such as comment spam issues; bad backlinks, low search engine ranking, etc. What are some of the things you could do to rehab the blog and make it popular in Google and with readers again?

    Get rid of the spam comments, add more useful content to it, promote it like crazy.

    These are really excellent suggestions. Once I worked on SEO for a site that had so much copied content (the owner didn't realize it was copied as he'd bought the site from another person off eBay). And, it took a lot of work to replace all the copied content with original content but it paid off and we really cleaned up the site and made it something wonderful.

    I think that it would be an exciting adventure. Promotion will help to get the site out there but first the work must be done to make it presentable for others to see it.

    Maybe even changing out the blog theme could be a good thing, especially if the theme was outdated or not fitting to the site content.

    Yes that is true. No one wants to visit a site that looks or feel outdated. Changing it up is a good thing.

    If I am giving a blog which already has too many problems, I may not take it. I don't have time to work on a blog with too many problems when I already have blogs that are going well. But then it this is a condition that I have to take it, then I will take it and sort out the problems. The first thing I will do is use plugins to optimize the images and remove cache. Then I will make changes in designs by using a new theme. Then I will delete spam comments.

    It depends on the kind of blog. Say, if the niche is near my passion which is pets, maybe I can rejuvenate that blog to give it a semblance of a decent update regularly. But since I don’t have the time for now, what I will do is to outsource the contents. Not outsourcing in the real sense of the word because I don’t have the budget for the expenses. I can gather my writer friends to pitch in for the contents. And for sure, the blog will up and running better with new contents on a regular basis.
