Allowing automatically posted comments

Do you allow comments to post automatically and then delete the ones you don't want? Or, do you require blog comments to go into a queue for review first before publication?

I do allow them before. But when someone started trolling and flamebaiting other people, I have them on moderation and only publish ones which I like or safe in the eyes of other people. And I don't really flush out bad comments. Keep them and let other see and reply to it.

One time, I got too much trolls on a single post which is getting out of hand. That's the time I enabled that moderation feature to prevent it from happening again.

It's a smart move to protect your blog from trolls as they can easily ruin what you've worked so hard to build. A loyal reader will feel betrayed if they see too much trolling on the blog comments and might not come back. So moderation is a good thing in that way as it lets you prevent damage to your blog from trouble makers.

I'm very strict about blog moderation and always delete spam comments or those that don't add to the relevance of my blog. Comments such as 'nice article' usually get deleted as the only purpose is to spam with the link.

Most of my commenters are mature enough to ignore the trolls, but there are times that they are getting out of hand and leads to flaming and attacking each other.

I'm happy they understand that these things happen and that you will not lose readers over it. Still, it's good that you have a watchful eye on your blog to prevent trouble.

I would think it is better to have them moderated first and then post. Some people just post garbage and no one likes to look at or read that.

Garbage? What do you meant?

This is true of some blogs. Sometimes, I will visit an unmoderated blog and there will be all kinds of nonsense almost illiterate sounding comments. And, you know they are spun comments, probably made by some kind of software. Cause no one writes like that. And, these spam comments are always filled with backlinks to medical, pharmaceutical or illegal sites. I don't bother posting comments on those blogs. And, I usually don't bother coming back to read more articles either.

I allow comments to post directly for it gives the visitors that mindset that I really care about their opinion instead of having to put their comments under a sort of review before allowing it on the blog.
