    When do you schedule forum maintenance?

    When is the best time to schedule forum maintenance so as not to inconvenience the least number of members? Is there an ideal time and how do you prepare members for what's coming?

    If your main audience comes by between 8 and 10 pm every night, then that's not when you would want to schedule maintenance. Ideally, you would have maintenance done after midnight (or during sleep hours) for the majority of your forum. Obviously, most forums are international, meaning there could be members coming in from all over the globe. In that situation, make an announcement on forum as to upcoming maintenance and let everyone know how long your forum will be inaccessible. Most are likely to understand.

    Try to do a little maintenance on your forum every day, usually after midnight so that you don't have to be out for a long time. It would be better to be offline for half an hour once a day than four hours once a week

    Post a simple announcement to let everyone know when you will be offline so this is not a real surprise.
