    Obviously, I want to talk with my friends on that forum. Otherwise I would just be offline talking to my friends in real life. So for me, I'm at a forum for advice or fellowship with others. I think that's why most people are at forums.

    I am associated with over a dozen forums. I visit these forums for two reasons. I get paid for posting on some forums. I market my websites on forums.
    Forums also are a good platform to generate backlinks for SEO purpose. I use my forum signature to generate backlinks for my websites and blogs.

    I have been into forums for more than 3 years now. The reason for joining a forum is the relevance of the niche to me. When there are boards that are interesting then I join and observe at first. When I feel that I will not enjoy the community, I leave and never come back. Most of the forums that I stay with are not very active but not dry either. I am turned off when the forum is so dynamic that my post would be at the bottom being covered by a ton of new posts.
