Why does spam attract spam on a forum?

Have you noticed how a spammed up forum will always get hundreds of daily spam posts?

It's as if the forum got put on some kind of list for spammers and now they are all taking a turn at it.

I don't know if that's really how it works, but it does seem that a forum which has a lot of ads all over the place and lots of spam posts will get far more than one that is heavily moderated.

Do you see it this way too?

And most likely, that's exactly what happened. If you visit any blackhat forum, you will find dozens of these lists where they tell you every forum and blog that has do follow links.

And every blackhatter goes there and scrapes those lists to use with their software. That's just an accepted practice.

But it's bad news for the forum owner who gets overwhelmed by spam.

When one spammer sees that others have been there, they will just take advantage. That's why you need good staff to keep the forum spam free.

There was one forum that I used to visit. It was susceptible to spam or maybe conducive is the term because there is a spammer. And the spam stays for days before it would be removed. Later on, I have noticed that there were already 2 spammers of different products and different origins which may mean that the first spammer was imitated by the second spammer. And it’s a good thing that there was no third spammer. I believe that a spam on the boards can attract spammers so moderators should always be on the lookout for such pest.
