    Do you offer an instant ban for trouble makers and spammers?

    When you come across someone who seems determined to cause trouble, do you offer a warning first or suspension or just go right for the ban? How about spammers? Is it best to suspend or ban right away?

    With a spam bot, you should just ban right away as that account is not really linked to a real person profile. However, if the account belongs to someone who has been on your forum awhile, you might take a more lenient approach. For spamming you would give a warning, same for trouble-making. No one has the right to stir up trouble, no matter how long they have been on a forum.

    I would ban both instantly. I don't care whether or not the person making trouble will get better after a temp ban. If they are banned, they can't cause trouble anymore.

    A ban seems really extreme for something so insignificant as an argument. If two people can't get along, you could always issue warnings which tell them to ignore each other. This will depend on previous behavior by that member.

    No I would not do an instant ban. It might create more headaches. I like having a warning system in place.

    Someone who seemed determined to cause trouble should be banned and blocked right away. However, you should be clear on your guidelines about the kind of trouble. And how can you determine that someone is determined to cause trouble? Anyway, when you feel like a member is a liability in the forum then there's no reason for that member to stay for long.
