Forums vs Facebook

Is Facebook taking all the forum members away? After all, most people are on Facebook daily and very few actually go to forums anymore.

The forums can be more organized, easier to use when it comes up to high amounts of information, links and files. I guess everything depends on its niche.

I like being a part of a forum. I like being able to learn about things and add my 2 cents!

It depends on the kind of forum. In another thread, there is the desire to create a general chat forum which I think is not practical at this time. It will be no match with Facebook which is more dynamic and has established users already. But I don't agree that Facebook can obliterate forums in the internet because I see them like an apple and an orange. A forum has a genre where an enthusiast can go and exchange ideas. Take for example a pet forum. If I post on Facebook, only a few would react to it. But posting the same in a pet forum, I would get more than double the reaction depending on the size of the community. The forum is here to stay no matter how strong the competition of Facebook is.

Theres a big difference in facebooking and doing forums. Forums are more focused and has strict rules and guidelines while facebooking is more general in nature meaning anyone could comment if the group or page is open.
