Do you join forums that your friends recommend?

If a friend of mine recommends a good forum, I'm very likely to check it out. Most times, they want my impression of the forum or ask me to join and post an introduction. This is usually no problem and it's always nice to see what my friends are into.

I'm not much into forums lately and rarely have time to visit any. Though sometimes, I'll click through on someone's signature line to check out a site. If the site looks interesting then I might actually join. But, I don't usually take forum recommendations from a friend.

If my friends on Facebook or online are starting a forum and share the link with me, then I will stop by to check it out and post for awhile. I don't mind helping out my friends in this way as they have helped me many times before.

I'm exactly the same way.
I'll only join forums if I'm absolutely interested in participating in, however in saying that...
I have joined different sites, and commented just to get a backlink. So I suppose I'm a hypocrite...lol

And, who hasn't done this? Do you join forums that your friends recommend?

This is just part of being a blogger or webmaster and it's expected that people will join and leave a signature line. If the posts are good quality, that helps too. Though I have seen times when people don't even bother putting more than a few words with the link, so that defeats the purpose of forum marketing. As it's supposed to be all about relationship/trust building rather than just link dropping for SEO.

I might give the forum a quick look to see if it's something I would be interested in. My friends know what I'm into and would not recommend something that is completely outside my field of interest.

When I started my general chat forum, I asked friends to join and some were able to do so. It was nice having them there for awhile.

Yes I have before. I like being a part of a forum that I know others on, so it is nice when they do recommend them.

I love being on a site where I see familiar faces. Most times, when I see a familiar name, I think, 'Oh! I know her!' And, it feels more fun being on that forum, knowing that others in my social circle like it too.

Friends can only help your forum so long before you need to get real forum members. Unless you plan on having your friends stay around forever.

I don’t remember joining forums upon recommendation except 1 forum that until now I’m still there. The forum is about other forums particularly those that you can earn from. It’s a pretty good forum for gaining information. I have to be honest the earning money is the primary purpose of people in the internet and I am one of those hence I am still in that forum until now. In fairness to my friends, when they invite me to a forum, I always check on it.
