    How do you promote your general chat forum?

    Over time, I've had some success with promoting my general chat forum on other generic forums. Though usually, it's harder to promote a general chat forum and get new members as most people will just pick a chat forum they like and remain loyal rather than hopping from one site to the next as you get with niche forums. And, that makes sense considering how a chat forum is more about the people and conversations, where as niche forums are more about having questions answered and getting expert advice.

    Just be friendly when you visit these competing forums and others will want to hang out with you. Those people will go to your forum (from your link) to talk to you. You might have others from your staff do the same. Just be sure these people are good representatives for your forum.

    Did you try Reddit for promotion yet? Depending on the daily content of your general chat site, you might be able to get brisk traffic from Reddit. Though don't just advertise your links as that will lead to Reddit ban.

    i look for other general forums to belong to, not just to promote my site but i wanna be a part of a forum and talk to people. but i never find any i like

    i use social media like crazy i get a ton of traffic there


    If people like you on Facebook and Twitter, they are more likely to go to your forum to talk with you there, though some are so stuck on using the social media platforms, they can't be bothered to click that link.

    I love general chat forums. I guess it is just because I am a chatty person and so think that I can lend a lot to general chats.

    Most specialized forums have a general chat section, even webmaster and admin forums. So you can just as easily promote your general chat there, if you post only in the general chat section of the forum. The members will be happy to get to know you and if they like your personality then they might just come on over to join your forum, assuming you include your forum link in your signature line.

    I enjoy a general chat forum because the discussion is anything under the sun. Even if my passion is pets, I have to be honest that sometimes I get bored with the topics. Maybe too much of anything is not good. A general discussion is a nice breather because I’d say that it is the forum of real people. There are good topics, serious, threads, and some nonsensical too. But the magnet of a general discussion is that you can easily relate to some of the threads. What attracts me most are threads about current events and controversial issues.

    I would recommend promoting it in Facebook. All it takes is a little bit of your copywriting skills and try to target the Asian and South East Asian Markets, you'll get a lot of traffic here.
