What does the Redirection Notice do when moving a Thread?

When I go to move a thread on XenForo forum, it has the option..

Redirection Notice:

1) Do not leave a redirect?
2) Leave a permanent redirect?
3) Leave a redirect that expires after?

Then also gives me an option for how many Hours / Days / Weeks / Months I want if I choose to leave a Redirect on.

What is it that is being redirected? The Old Thread URL to the New Thread URL? or Does it leave something like other forum softwares like a Shadow Topic in the old forum saying there was a thread here but now it is in.. ? Can some please reply and let me know, thanks.

This is making me now think that the "No Redirect" option might be the better one to choose.

i choose the 2) option because it moves the whole thread + url + result in google to new address. i think it's something similar to 301 redirect i mean redirecting one site to other. What does the Redirection Notice do when moving a Thread?

Also, if it's a brand new thread, such as one posted only an hour before, would Google have indexed it by then? Just wondering what harm if any comes from those pages as Google will find the new link quickly enough if we only use a temporary redirect. And, maybe this is a question better suited for the SEO section, but are broken links like that rooted out of the Google search index eventually? I will have to do research on all that, unless someone can provide a link.

P.S. Just let me know which redirect you prefer used, as currently I'm using the third option too (that expires after one month), for all threads, new and old.

Well if you use the 3) rd option it will auto change the thread back to previous state after fixed time. so maybe you should use 2) What does the Redirection Notice do when moving a Thread?

Does it not just stop the redirection for people visiting it at it old location, rather than moving the thread back What does the Redirection Notice do when moving a Thread? As there has been threads moved longer than a month ago with the 1 Month Redirection on it and the thread have not automatically been moved back to the forums I moved them out of.
