Forum copycats

Do you feel honored when others copy your forum's theme or subject or do you feel as if they are just trying to cash in on your hard work?

I don't like it when people try to copycat me or imitate what I'm already doing. Though I can't stop anyone from getting a similar themed blog, I can protect my blog posts and writing from thieves who would steal my content.

If they can make a bigger success than me at my chosen niche, then they are welcome to it. After all, if anyone put in the hours and money that I have, they would likely deserve it.

If they are taking my content, I don't feel flattered at all. I would likely email the forum owner and threaten some type of legal action and then file a DMCA with Google to get the pages taken out of Google search.

There's no honor in stealing anyone's work and if you find that your forum idea or theme has been stolen,you're not going to feel good about it. In this situation, imitation is not the best form of flattery.

My take on the copying is this - we cannot really say that they have copied your theme or design because of the law of probability. With the millions or maybe hundreds of millions of designers, it is always probable to create something that is already existing. Unless the design is copied exactly, you cannot really accuse anyone of copying. But anyway, for purposes of discussion, it is truly an honor if someone would copy your theme. Simply put, your design is good to warrant copying.
