    Do you delete all posts of banned members?

    When you delete an account, do you also delete all the member's posts? Let's say this was a long time member, who contributed 1000 forum posts. Would you delete all their posts when the account is banned or leave them up on forum? What are the consequences of doing both?

    You would be hurting your search engine ranking a lot if you deleted all the content of a long time banned member. Most likely, these people have produced many new discussions and responses that have merit. And, their bannable offense, might not be related to the content produced on forum. Why delete valuable content, just because they are no longer allowed to post on forum?

    As forum owner, you own those forum posts too and all content is yours. So you should be able to enjoy it, even when the forum member has gone.

    So long as the posts don't contain copied content or links, then I'm happy to leave up the posts of a banned member. Most times, I don't even point out how the person is banned.

    If the posts aren't stolen from somewhere and the posts follow my rules, I will usually allow them to stay but otherwise, I will delete them.

    It's important to get rid of posts which were stolen from other forums as that could cause legal troubles (or at least friction) with the other site owner. You would want to delete all that copied content right away.

    And, what about the posts made by a spam bot? You would want to delete those posts as they are low value and add nothing to the site.

    Those posts are irrelevant and easily deleted once you ban the bot account. Just tick the box to select that all posts by that user be deleted as there is a good chance most if not all of the posts made by that account will be spam related.

    As I always say, a post is a post so as long as the post is not derogatory or obvious spam then the post is good. And a bad post is to be deleted outright. Anyway, when a member is banned or blocked for a misdemeanor or a major offense, what is the rationale in deleting his posts? It is like throwing away part of the contents of your forum because the posts of the banned member is part of your content. Again, a post is a post so even if the poster is already banned, there's nothing wrong in retaining all his posts. By the way, the banned poster cannot make you delete all his posts because as far as the forum is concerned, that belongs to the forum already although the authorship is credited to the banned member.
