When your forum members post in the general chat area all day

Let's say you have a beauty or health niche forum and want posts in those specific subforums, but most of your members post in the general chat area. How do you motivate members to move their discussions to the more relevant niche areas so that you get good content there? This discussion also applies to any niche, whether computer/tech or webmaster/SEO.

As leader of the forum, you should start as many niche discussions as possible and openly encourage everyone to respond. You could ask your members via private message to be more active in the niche areas.

You need to find other people who like posting in your niche rather than the general area. Otherwise you will run out of relevant niche discussions.

I know of a forum where some members only post in the chat box. It looks like those guys have nothing to do all day and are looking for someone to talk with. They don’t post on the boards but only in the chat box from time to time. There was a time that I posted a greeting in the chat box and on the next day that I logged in, I saw my name being greeted there. I did not bother to reply because for me, that is just a waste of time and I don’t even have the interest to chat with them.
