If it's a smaller forum, I'll skim over the available forum threads and see if there is something similar and then make my own post.

If you get this warning from a mod, they are just concerned you might be making duplicate discussions on the forum. Though I don't really know anyone who actually searches before they make a post.

I usually do not do this. I guess I have never really thought that I needed to because I feel if I have a good idea then I will usually run with it.

No I do not do this. It usually takes up a bit too much of my time.

No I am not guilty of doing this. I guess when I have an idea I just run with it and never look to see if there are other threads about it.

I search on google first, usually, unless I want the advice of fellow social friends.

Searching on google is a good idea, but sometimes I just do not have the time to weed through all the stuff. Sometimes it is just easier to post the question.

Often times I am too busy to see if a post was covered already. I guess if there is one already started the admin can merge the two together?

Also, I skim the first page or two of threads and if I don't see a similar post there, then I will post my own discussion covering the topic. If a similar discussion exists and is so far back in the pages, it must not have been popular, so no harm in posting a new similar topic.

NO I have never used this. If I feel the need to start a topic, then I usually do.

I use the search function on all websites if I am looking for a specific question. I also advice others to use it on my website so that they don't constantly ask the same question that has been answered hundreds of time because that just gets annoying.

I used the search function on another webmaster forum where I was posting on a gig. I wanted to see if there was a similar thread about Halloween. And, they came up with dozens of pages about Halloween, but all related to what will you be doing in real life or what costume will you be wearing. But none related to Halloween themes or forum Halloween games. So I went ahead and posted the discussion.

Searching on a site takes too long. Just take care to phrase your title in a very unique way so it does not appear the same as other related discussions.

I never even thought to do this. If I want to post something then I just run with it.

This is a nice advice – to check your content for duplicate before uploading. However, I don’t think that is necessary if you were the one who wrote the content and you are sure that it is original and not a spun content. But again, for purposes of duplicate clearance, I guess it is not wrong to check it anyway. What I understand with duplicate content is a paragraph that is the same but with just a line that is the same, I don’t think it is considered a duplicate content already
