Do polls add value to a forum discussion?

Are polls really useful for forum discussions? Do they help take a consensus of forum opinion or just provide a distraction? And, do you forum members actually use the forum poll option when provided?

It is a nice option but many times I will not do the polls. I like just to be able to state in my comment which I like or whatever.

Sometimes, I will see a poll on a forum thread, like where the forum owner is asking for opinions on some forum issue and only one or two people will take time to complete the poll. And, I wonder why since it only takes a second to click poll options. The important polls are important to respond to. And, I always try to respond to those. Though maybe if it wasn't important, then I wouldn't take time to respond.

YOu do make a good point but sometimes they are just plain annoying. If it was an important matter then I might do it.

It's easy enough to take a few seconds to tick a box on a poll. If someone has taken the time to post a poll, I will usually respond.

I think it is a bit of fun to add to a discussion and I like to make some funny polls for the community to joke with. Just to lighten things up a bit around the board.

Sometimes, a forum member who might not ordinarily respond will participate in a poll and that might bring them out of their shell. So polls are nice for that reason.

Many do not do the polls though. They just answer with a response which does not help the poll out.

I'm guilty of doing thatDo polls add value to a forum discussion? Guess I often just add my 2 cents and then leave.

I'm sure your response is very much appreciated. Later on, when you think of it, you could go back and respond to the poll.

Especially when the poll is very interesting and relevant to the niche and also a current hot issue, it is definitely an added value to the forum. When I joined a poll, I check on the figures once in a while. Just for curiosity, I want to know if my choice is popular in the community or not. If the forum has several polls that I had joined then I would check all of it if I had time and more likely I will add a comment when I feel necessary.
