How to write content that won't bore your readers

People all over the world are put in front of content when they go online.  It doesn't matter where you go, content is thrown at you and sometimes it feels like people are just saying "READ ME!!!".  If you want to be remembered, your content needs to stand out from the rest.  One of the best ways to stand out is to tell a story to your readers so they want to keep reading.

People love reading success stories, or just random stories, about a person because they can usually relate to it somehow.  You can't really do this if you're just adding statistics, graphs, and data that can't be instantly understood.  So, to be successful at keeping your readers attention, you need to learn how to write in story format and keep them intrigued about the next sentence or paragraph to come up.

Below are 4 simple tricks you can use to keep your readers interested in what you have to say on your website or blog


Talk about what you're passionate about
If you can't show that you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, how can the reader be passionate about it as well.  I've seen plenty of articles about proper SEO and most of them are extremely boring because they're loaded with a bunch of statistics and graphs that I have no interest in.  I get it, you want to seem smart and sophisticated so you use big words and fancy colored images to keep people reading, but it only works so much and you aren't really showing any passion behind your content

Easy ways to show you're passionate about something is to either show a case study that shows a real customers experience or go over a mistake you actually made within your own company and what you did to resolve it.  People always want to see customer experiences, but it's difficult to get the actual customer to get in and write up an entire article for you, so you have to do it yourself lol.  This will show that you're actually a part of your customers path to success and you're passionate about what they achieve.    If you're writing about a story back when you messed something up but fixed it for the better, people will read because they like controversy   You were challenged, screwed up, but then succeeded in the end so they will hang on every word to see where you go down the road of overcoming your challenge


Help your readers identify with what you're saying
An easy way to keep people reading is to write about your own experiences that they might have had themselves.  This way they can get that feeling of "I've been there!" and they can instantly relate to what you're saying on your website or blog.  If they can relate to what you're saying, they will continue reading and likely stick around for a few articles

If you're writing about a struggle, you also need to cover how you overcame it and are more successful now than before.  If you write about a struggle and there's no light at the end of the tunnel, people won't keep reading and you will see a pretty high bounce rate.


Your stories need to relate directly to your brand
It doesn't matter if the story is real or fictional, as long as you're writing about something and you can relate it back to your brand, people will keep their attention long enough to get through your article and possibly stick around for a while. 

If you can't relate directly to your brand within your articles or blog posts, your readers will simply see you as rambling with no end even though you have a period at the end of the sentence.  You need to close up your content with how it relates to you or your brand so people can have a sense of closer.


Learn about fictional writing
How you write is just as important as what you're writing about.  If you don't know how to spin a marvelous storty within your content, you won't see people coming back a second time.  I myself go to plenty of websites solely based on how someone writes up their content, which means this little trick works pretty well

Fictional writing means you're spinning a story that didn't really happen, but if you look through some great fictional books, they write in a way that keep you interested around every turn.  You can take this cliff hanger type writing style and implement it into your non-fictional writing.  If you can master this, you will see people coming back time and time again to read and possibly share your content for others to enjoy



In Conclusion
Keeping a readers attention isn't the easiest thing to do, but it's definitely possible if you use the 4 tricks I mentioned above.  I didn't actually use them too much in this discussion becuase I wanted you to understand exactly what I was talking about without too many words clouding up your memory lol.  Sure, I could have gotten fancier with this discussion, but it would have been 5,000+ words and no one wants to read something that long
