Whenever someone comes to a forum or social media group and asks "how can I make money online" I will ALWAYS respond with something along the lines of they need to start blogging and learn.  Everyone wants to start off with a successful blog, but that simply doesn't happen without hard work and dozens of mistakes along that way that you can learn from.  Bloggers just starting out will buy their first domain, edit the nameservers to aim at their new hosting account, and add WordPress with a free theme to their hosting account then complain a week later when they haven't made $1,000 lol.  If making money online were that easy, I'd be making $100,000 a day and not working longer than it would take to pay my team of writers and virtual assistants to do the work for me haha   I've started plenty of blogs, and written for many of the top news platforms, and I know for a fact that I haven't hit my peak just yet.  I know that it will still take years of work before I can consider myself "successful" but that's just because I know my own goals are different than most

When new bloggers start off they have unrealistic expectations, which is why they make a bunch of mistakes.  You'll never do everything right when you start off, but with this discussion you'll be able to figure out a few things that you shouldn't be doing, then apply that to your content  


New bloggers sell too much in their content
One of the biggest problems I've noticed is that new bloggers will always be selling when they write up their content.  They will think that all their content needs to be selling because it will increase their chances of making a sale, but in reality it actually hurts their conversions because people will try to find informative content and just find sales pitches left and right. 

In order to boost your conversions, you need to add QUALITY content to your blog, this means you can't pitch or try to convince anyone you're the best.  Sure, you can add a banner to the sidebar, but that's not you pitching to them.  If someone wants to purchase from you, they will be able to find your "Buy Now" button with a few clicks.  Of course, you'll have to make it easy for them to find your service or product pages, but that's pretty obvious


New bloggers don't develop a personality
Another problem is that new bloggers don't really develop a personality within their writing.  They will just sound robotic the entire time, across hundreds of posts, because they think that's what quality content is.  I'm here to tell you that if you develop a personality within your content you will actually sell more due to people being able to trust you easier.  They will see that the content is written by a real person behind a keyboard and not a corporate robot just trying to churn out content that is only there to boost the sales of the business lol

Look at my writing style, it's not perfect, but it's mine   I add in smileys often and even throw an LOL or HAHA into my content because it's just how I write.  I'll text friends and family the same way, and it carried over to how I write content.  Of course, my texts to friends and family are more personalized, but that's to be expected   <-- See, another smiley


New bloggers write short content with more images
It doesn't matter if you're a new blogger or a seasoned veteran, you shouldn't be flooding your content with images.  It doesn't matter if you blog for Instagram, which revolves around images, you don't want to flood people away from your content that they're trying to read.  Think about it, how many times have you read an amazing 2,000+ word article and it has dozens of images in it?  Not very often!

A good rule of thumb is to add an image, or something like an enlarged quote, after every 300 to 400 words of content.  The only way you should be adding a bunch of images, that might flood the content, is if you're posting a "How To" that requires images because they're informative.  If you're not writing a step by step process of something that has images as a sort of visual learning process, you shouldn't be adding a bunch of visuals.  People are there for your content, not your images, so let them read and add in page breaks with a few images and even an enlarged quote to keep them reading and happy


New bloggers think riches come quick
It's actually mind boggling how many new bloggers, and even webmasters, think riches come quick when they just start off.  Sure, if you've been working online for 10+ years and set up a blog to make money, you might expect it to turn a profit early on, but that doesn't work without experience.  If you're just starting off, you need to know that you're not going to make much money (or any at all) and you just need to invest your time and knowledge into content creation to bring more people in day after day.  The more content you generate each day just gives you more chances to make money. 

Think about it, if you just started blogging and have 10 articles on your website, you won't get nearly as much traffic as a blog that has 1,000 articles.  It's all a numbers game, as well as an authority one as well, and you need both to take over your niche.  If you can write up 10 high quality articles a day, you can start to take over your niche quicker than someone who is just posting 1 a day


New bloggers target the most difficult niches, then complain about rankings
I'm actually a statistic for this because when I started off 15+ years ago I targeted mesothelioma and pay day loans lol   I was blogging part time for about 6 months and eventually sold the blogs for a few grand, but I never even came close to cracking into the top 10 for any of the top keywords in either of those niches.  I never complained about rankings, I learned how to rank over time and quickly figured out that my niches of choice were next to impossible to rank in, so I moved on lol.

Many new bloggers complain about not ranking in a short amount of time, then we figure out what their industry is, and we laugh because they've been blogging for a few months and their competitors have been doing this for 10+ years

If you want to make money from blogging, you need to do your keyword research and only target niches that aren't impossible to rank in.  Sure, you can rank in any niche since the internet is sort of an equal opportunity employer, but you likely don't have the resources a multi-billion dollar corporation does, so you might as well pick a different niche that is easier to rank in lol.

Blogging isn't difficult and you can always make money from it through content writing.  People need to learn, and the search engines are always looking for content where people can get quality information, so give it to them.  Write great content that doesn't pitch your services or products and isn't flooded with your images, and you will be rewarded over time with sweet sweet traffic that is 100% free
