    Trying to get some good backlinks will take time, but it's definitely worth the investment. What takes even more time is building enough of these backlinks to start seeing a spike in the rankings.     Nice share Razzy. Getting backlinks is a hard business, from my point of view it is probably the single most frustrating thing in SEO, it takes a lot of time and a lot of factors are involved and you need to get right to make everything work out in the end.

    This is why I love to get created, I have teammates that focus on getting links the old fashion ways, outreaching till they can't outreach anymore! For a few months now I have a new model, doing the unexpected.

    Depending on the niche I just boldly contact people, organizations or other businesses for creative businesses proposals that also involve link building. Like, for example, on a medical niche, I tend to contact universities, offering them free web work in exchange for a "thank you link" to my client's website.
    Point is you also need to get creative and bold. You'll miss a lot of big opportunities by not trying stuff out of your league!

    Leaving links on the websites cannot be termed backlinking as such links in most cases seem to be nofollow links. In order to get backlink, your link must be dofollow.
    You get quality backlink by producing quality article. Quality backlink also comes from quality sites, authoritative sites. If you linkback to a site that does not have any reputation, your backlink will be considered a bad backlink.
    Look for organic backlinking instead of linking your website and links to random websites.

    That is the problem with no-follow sites that the link you had posted there will not be sensed by the search engines as if they are invisible. I am really wondering why some site owners would set their sites to be a no-follow URL. It is like depriving people of the benefit of backlinks. But in fairness to one who is building backlinks, you should be discerning with the kind of website that you are targeting because it is not good to have a bad backlink or should I say a backlink on a bad site.

    I have a handful websites. I sometimes give backlinks through the anchor text, however, the comment backlinks are nofollow backlinks. I hear that Google penalizes the site that gives too much dofollow backlinks. Therefore, most of the authoritative sites do not give you dofollow backlinks.

    This is right on time! I am looking into the whole backlinks aspects of SEO, the tools, the building and so on. It's crazy how much good backlinks can increase your Google ranking though. I always knew that they're important but never realized just how much.

    Backlinks are definitely worth the effort and time so to all the SEO's people trying to get that rank up, I'd really suggest you check yours out and make sure that you've got high-quality ones.

    Great tips!

    I particularly chose to do a guest post on one of my blogs and I confess it was a watershed for success in my SEO strategy.
    At the time I was able to make a guest post to a high authority site and this helped a lot in the positioning of my site on Google. It was from that moment that I saw how important it really was to get good backlinks to an SEO strategy.

    Thank you for sharing this. I do not know much about backlinks, especially there are follow and nofollow links, and I do not know how I can get them to my blog too. I will try these out and hope they will work for me. But I understand the key is to be patient.

    Post to High Quality directories

    Probably the best way to get the highest quality backlinks is listing your site in a well known directory like Yahoo or DMOZ. These directories as a rule have very high Page Rank (PR) values and them linking to your site is very good for your site's Page Rank. The directory link is regarded as high quality and consequently your link popularity goes up.

    These directories are almost always compiled by humans and hence directory searches are considered very relevant. Search Engines know this. Consequently all the search engine spiders start their crawl from these sites.

    Hence, if you are listed in Yahoo or DMOZ, you will definitely be spotted by a crawler -- very good for your page ranking. When you list with these sites, make sure that the content on your site is informative and relevant. High quality directories like Yahoo and DMOZ will not list sites if they consider it blatantly selling something.

    Remember your sites content is being reviewed by a human editor. I again emphasize on the fact that your content must be unique and well written and the design of your site must be neat and professional looking. Make sure that your site has no broken links. Most importantly do not have "Pages under construction"

    Blog comments

    Another great way to get backlinks is to search for blogs with high PR. Look for blogs where you can leave a comment. More often than not, you will be able to leave a comment and also link to your website. The rule of thumb here is that you should leave a thoughtful and useful comment which catches the webmasters attention. If you are lucky you will get a link back to your site.

    One way of going about getting links from high PR sites is looking for blogs which have content similar to yours. If you are selling furniture make sure you try to post on blogs with similar content and with high PR. You could contact the owner of that blog and request him for a link back to your site. This might work but also remember that it can be a very long and frustrating process.

    Remember it is the quality of backlinks you get and not quantity. Having 5 backlinks blogs with PR of 4 and 5 is much better than having 100 backlinks from sites with PR of 1 and 0.

    Guest posting

    As the name suggests this is posting content on blogs owned by others. Look for high PR blogs. It would make sense if you look for blogs with content similar to your own blog. Now check if they allow guest posts.

    Very often posting relevant content as a guest post could get you big dividends. The blog owner might like fresh ideas on the same topic and include your post and most probably will give you a link back to your site. This might not work every time, but if you keep plugging away at it, the chances of getting linked to a high quality blog are very good.

    Link Baiting

    Link baiting is an interesting way to get backlinks. If used properly it certainly is a wonderful way to get natural backlinks.

    Write something which will get people's attention and start talking about it. They will automatically start discussing it in forums and blogging about it. It is a great way to get huge attention to your site. Some ideas are to write a controversial article which is sure to evoke an emotional response or it could be a humorous take on someone famous personality.

    The next step is to Social bookmark the site URL of what you have written on social bookmarking like del.icio.us, Furl, Digg, Shoutwire etc.
    Link baiting is a hit and miss thing, but at best if you are lucky the controversy you have kicked up could lead to lots of backlinks. Not a bad idea actually.

    I like guest posting but I understand that it is not that easy. First problem is how to find a popular website that would allow guest posting. It’s good if you have a friend who is a popular blogger. Perhaps you will be given permission to post there. And if that happens then you can write a good blog for the big audience to see and maybe your post can go viral and make yourself a popular blogger too.
