Not getting targeted in your PPC campaigns will make you go broke

When it comes to a ppc campaign, you have to get pretty targeted or you won't have the desired results that you're hoping for.  Targeting with a PPC campaign is crucial because you can get your ads in front of a specific group of people and they will be more likely to sign up or purchase from you in the long run.  When you're just blindly blanketing your ad across a platform, you're not targeting very much because the ads and keywords aren't as specific as they can be.

In this discussion I'm going to go over why it's so important to target specific people when it comes to running a PPC campaign on any advertising platform such as Google Adwords, Bing Ads and Facebook Ads.

Targeting hits the right people
When you use the right targeting for your advertising campaign you will increase your ROI a whole lot.  This is due to the fact that you're getting your ads in front of the people who are more interested in what you're selling and not just some random person who might have stumbled upon your ad and clicked it out of curiosity.

You want people to know what your ad is all about before they click it.  If you're using clickbait, it will increase your click throughs, but if you're not targeting then you're just going to be wasting money.

You won't waste as much money
I say that you won't waste as much money because in the beginning you will definitely waste some when you're setting up your campaigns for optimum performance.  Not many people can just set up an ad and it's a killer right from the start.  You will likely have to split test your ads, keywords, bids, targeting, etc. before you have a winning combination Not getting targeted in your PPC campaigns will make you go broke

You should never see advertising as wasting money.  Think of it as trading dimes for dollars Not getting targeted in your PPC campaigns will make you go broke

Not targeting is just wasteful
Now there are plenty of people out there that will say they didn't do any type of targeting besides the very basic steps and they were successful, and that's great.  How much do you think they over spent on their campaigns?  Probably at least double what they could have been spending lol.  Sure, they got their ads in front of the right people and got the clicks that turned into sales, but how many of those clicks were wasted and still got paid for?

By targeting your PPC campaigns you will be able to filter out all of those random clicks that don't turn into sales and only focus on the ones that will convert.  Think about it, if I said I got 100 clicks and make 10 sales, that's not a bad conversion rate.  But what if I told you that I got 10 clicks and made 10 sales?  You'd be asking me exactly how I did it and what I was selling because that's a 100% conversion rate lol.  That's a bit extreme when it comes to conversions, but it's not unheard of.

Not targeting will cost you more money
When you're not targeting your PPC campaigns you're just putting your ad out there for any random person to click on.  Think of it as banner advertising on a general forum, you will have thousands of people seeing your banner but only a few will actually like it.  This is how targeting works, you will get your ad in front of only those people who are interested which means you're not wasting money on pointless clicks and only getting the best out of your budget Not getting targeted in your PPC campaigns will make you go broke

In Conclusion:
Start targeting your campaigns and you will notice a good amount of conversions.  You may not get as many clicks on your ads, but the clicks you do get are worth 100 or the random clicks Not getting targeted in your PPC campaigns will make you go broke  You can sky rocket your ROI when you start targeting since you won't be wasting too much money on anything except the start up when you are split testing Not getting targeted in your PPC campaigns will make you go broke

I think age and gender targetting is very much important. As you can see some of the time some campaigns just go random due to that part. I have found some people targetting these two variables and making things lot better. But that being said, it'd not be easier if you are spending lot of money per click. So starting with low amount definitely helps. You can also find that CPM based campaigns for awareness are good for videos and not for the random text post.

I agree with this. I might target female at the age between 25 to 40 if I am selling things about pregnancy or babies, though there are many men who are interested in baby and parenting stuff too. It also depends on the country, I guess there are still more stay at home moms in my country rather than stay at home dads.

Yes the mommy bloggers are getting rich by targeting the people of that age. And it seems to be working out for them. I have also noticed that they using the age gap and gender for ads. It works out for them. In such case it can be something good in case of the conversion for the offer in their ads.

I am not much concerned with gender but with age it is important. I had seen in South Korea their preference for the so called Millennials who are the teenagers of today. Lotte is a big brand there and it has a 7-story mall that is dedicated for the young. They only sell items that are for the teenagers. With that theme of business, it is clear that age matters when it comes to products.

In case of the ads being targeted that does matter. Like say preganncy ads are specific to age and also the disease in old age specific to that age. So the business seems to be good for the ad targeting. Another thing is that PPC takes experiment with keywords.

This article is an eye opener for me. I have used PPC campaigns to drive traffic and sales on my websites. However, the conversion was not satisfactory.
I learned a lesson from my failure. Your PPC campaign should be targeted properly. First of all you need to identify your customer base, where are they located, what is their gender and age group. Then you also need to allot budget properly. Spending more does not guarantee sales, spending wisely does.

You also have to know that the focus marketing on PPC sites doesn't always work though. Some companies can make a great profit and increase their traffic from PPC advertising but it may not work for others.

PPC isn't easy at all and can be quite risky if not done well. I think it generally works the best for websites that sell some sort of products on their site and they can easily cover the expenses of PPC advertising.

I somehow agree with you, well targeting your PPC campaigns is cheaper than leave your ad open to everyone because here only people who are concerned will get to see your ad that really make sense and it's a good way to avoid wasting your money advertising in wrong people who are not really going to buy products, but I still think you might also limiting yourself from potential clients from random clicks, right? and this make it worthy letting your ad to be viewed by everyone.

You said it all, not targeting is something you should never do with you PPC campaigns, there are so many variable you can target from age, location, gender etc you should also make sure you target the right keyword so as to get the best results with all your campaigns. Never be made to loose money for not doing your PCC targeting right.

In any kind of advertising, hitting your intended target is always the priority. My cousin who is an advertising executive used to say that advertising with nor intended target is like wasting money because you spend for the advertisement but the effect is not concrete or effective. If we can define the target market then it will be easier to implement a marketing campaign directed to the target market.
