Probably publishing low quality or copied content. This is the bigger mistake beginners make, they don't care about the published content as long as they have some.

I fully agree to what you said about copied content. Aside from being immoral and illegal because copying content is plagiarism, it is also a black eye for the SEO. From what I had read in several discussions on this site, a copied content can cause your ranking to slide down at least 1 page. That means if you are on page 2 then your link will be placed on page 3 the next time around. Especially if your website is a blog, posting a copied content is a mortal sin. However, it is all right to post a copied content if you have a disclaimer and a valid reason why you posted it.

Ok, copied low quality content isn't an issue.

Look at some of the top article directories that are ranking high, yet they have boat load of copied content.

Some of the biggest SEO mistakes that you can make are

  • Keyword Stuffing. This is just spamming your keywords.
  • Content that is not quality. Or using duplicate content which search engines do not like.
  • Using flash on your site. Search engines can not read flash.
  • Using images without using tags.
  • Backlinking to sites that are not quality. Backlinking to any site will get you no where.

Targetting the wrong keywords
This is a mistake many people make and what is worse â?? even experienced SEO experts make it. People choose keywords that in their mind are descriptive of their website but the average users just may not search them. For instance, if you have a relationship site, you might discover that â??relationship guideâ?? does not work for you, even though it has the â??relationshipâ?? keyword, while â??dating adviceâ?? works like a charm. Choosing the right keywords can make or break your SEO campaign. Even if you are very resourceful, you can't think on your own of all the great keywords but a good keyword suggestion tool, for instance, the Website Keyword Suggestion tool will help you find keywords that are good for your site.

I agree that keywords should not exactly be descriptive of the niche of the site. In your example if the niche is relationship then that keyword will always be used but in fact the contents it not always directly pointing to the niche. In other words the keyword should relate to the contents like when the content is about lovers quarrel then you need not include the keyword relationship anymore.
