How far would you go to keep a freelance customer?

How jealously do you guard your customers to ensure they come back to you, rather than going to your competition? Do you bend over backward or go the extra mile to keep them coming back? Or, do you feel like you have enough business that a few lost customers doesn't matter?

I would do a good job for my client and provide what's been promised, but I won't give a lot of free work or discount my prices to extreme just to keep them as a customer. If they are not happy, then they should just find another freelancer to provide services. I can't work for free or cheap and neither should anyone else.

I'm not going to spend an extra few hours on a job that is only paying five dollars. This seems like an excess and makes it not worth my time. In that way, the client would be wasting my time, so I would just find someone else to work with.

It's best to keep things on a professional level with your customers. And, going too far over board to please a customer sets the wrong tone.

The customer might assume you are playing favorites and start taking advantage of your kindness and asking for other things you have not paid for.

Giving favors to a customer just to keep them happy will only encourage that person to ask for more.

When I already have enough businesses, I don't care much about the customer who asks for pampering. If they can't wait for me, I will ask them to look else where. However, if I don't have enough work and I desperately need work I will do every thig I can do in order to keep the customer with me. I may lower my price or give him something as a bonus (if he is asking for 500 words article, I will write 600 word article for the same price.)
