Don't commit one of these 7 sins when blogging

Since blogging has become so easy to start up due to CMS's like Wordpress being available for free to anyone, people have began to think that it's all an easy streak to riches.  People fall into thinking that's it's easy, and that's not something a business owner should be thinking when it comes to their own website or blog.

A business or personal blog is one of the best marketing tools a person can use in order to create traffic to their pages.  Almost every major company will have a blog and a dedicated blogger to push content through regularly which will engage people and also bring in new visitors.

Blogging will always work for you as long as you avoid the 7 sins I'll be covering in this discussion Don  Don't get too worried if you've already committed one of these sins, there's still time to save yourself lol Don

1. Not blogging at all or not frequently enough
You will need to set up a schedule, or at least schedule some posts that will go live when you're not around.  Having a schedule written down of when you should be publishing content to your blog will help you stay on track and keep your pages active in the eyes of Google.  This doesn't mean that you have to publish a 2,000+ word article every day in order to be seen as an active website or blog.  You just need to keep consistency when it comes to posting, and that means you can post every 3 days or even once a week and be just fine.

Just remember, the more content you have on your website or blog, the better chances you'll have of tapping into that sweet search engine traffic through long tailed keywords.

Scheduling your content is a great route because you can sit down for a day and write all of your content that will go out over the course of the next month.  You can write 15,000 words of content and split it across 10 articles, then schedule them to go out every 3 days so that you don't have to worry about it.  Doing this will take up your entire day because writing 15,000 words of content isn't very easy to do, but it's worth it Don

2. Not using what already works
When it comes to blogging, it's more than just sitting behind a computer screen and writing up some content then clicking "publish".  You'll need to focus on key content aspects of each post that you publish, and some of those are as follows:

  1. All in one guides
  2. Listed Content
  3. Infographics
  4. Comparison Charts and Content
  5. Reviews from Experts

3. Writing up boring content
When it comes to blogging, a lot of businesses are pushing around boring content.  You would think that these companies would hire a good blogger since they could afford it, but no, they'd rather have Joe bob write up content that lacks in many areas and just becomes boring to the readers.

Even if your product or service is boring doesn't mean your content has to be!  Write up some engaging content that gets the reader involved some how.  Pull them in and make it so they want to read more than one article every time they visit.

4. Boring Titles
When it comes to the titles of your blog post, they have to be amazing.  No one wants to read a blog post if the title isn't awesome.  How many times have you clicked through because of a boring title?  You may have done it by accident, but that doesn't count lol Don

Boring titles massed around a great title are what make that great title stand out even more.  I'm sure you've clicked through many times on something like "Jay Bob won $15,000,000 and spent it in a way that would drive you crazy".  You click through on things like this because you want $15million and you also want to see how Jay Bob spent it in a way that would drive you crazy lol Don

Stop making your titles boring and you will notice a spike in engagement throughout your blog posts Don

5. Not connecting with the Influencers in your Industry
In today's world, influencers are becoming more and more popular in terms of getting your brand out there.  Another good thing about influencers is that they can help drive massive amounts of traffic to your websites because of the massive followings they usually have.

Connecting with influencers will not only help you brand your blog or website much easier, they will help drive sales to your website and increase your ROI.

So you don't know any influencers in your industry?
That's easy to solve, just go on Instagram and find some lol Don  You can search based on your keywords and find who has a ton of followers and message them directly.  The good thing about this is that you can usually bypass the "gatekeeper" secretary and get your message right in front of the actual influencer themselves.  Don't be afraid to ask for a shout out or a mention on their Instagram and other platforms, the worst they can say is "No".  You'll likely have to pay them to mention your blog or website and those prices vary depending on your niche.

6. Ignoring Visual Stimulation
When it comes to having an amazing blog, you will always need visual stimulation.  This basically means you need to have images on there that will help break up the content if you're writing something extremely long.  Think of them as little stimulation breaks between the content so that the reader has some downtime and can just look at an image.

If you're not good at image design, just look through SEOclerks and find someone that can make something for each blog post you publish.  You can usually re-use the images a few times, jut not in consecutive posts.  I would say to have 30 images made so you can use 1 for each day.  If you want to go wild, you can usually find a designer that will do images for a couple bucks and make it specific for each of your posts.  Just give them your titles of each post and they can hammer out an image for you in a short amount of time Don

7. Not promoting your content.
Publishing a lot of content is great, but if you're not promoting it, you're going to fail in a short amount of time.  A simple method of promotion is to post your new content, or specific articles, to your social media pages and letter your followers know you have something new.

Another way to easily promote your content is to get a Facebook ad up and running and getting super targeted when it comes to who you want to bring in to see it.  Remember, you're paying per click or for impressions, so you want it to be targeted in order to not waste money Don

In Conclusion:
If you're committing any of these 7 blogging sins, it's not too late for you.  All you have to do is change your blogging ways and you will be in the good graces of Google and your readers in a short amount of time Don

I am a writer who lives by writing online. I write for niche content sites, I write for clients, I sell my ebooks. I also have blogs.
However, my blogs are stagnant. I have not updated my blogs since a long time. After I had 20 plus articles. I monetized the sites with AdSense and affiliate ads, then just forgot about the sites.
I agree with all of the points mentioned above. I am committing most of these sins. I don't have a frequency of my blog posting, I am not using what works, I am not promoting. I need time to do these things. But I don't have time because I have to work on the freelancing jobs that being me quick money.

I can guess that you lack the time for blogging hence your blog is stagnating maybe because you are into the other freelancing work that you think are more profitable. That also happened to our blog when my blogger had quit writing and I also had no articles to contribute because I was already earning better with my main line of paid forum posting. Sometimes you will lose interest in the blog when you find something better.

In the last one year, things have changed drastically. When I am not working for clients and do not have any assignments on hand, I work on my blog and post new articles. As a freelancer, I do not have assignments always, therefore, I have plenty of time for my blogs. When I started giving time on my blogs, my blogs began to generate traffic and revenue.

Time is of the essence but I guess on my part, time is not on my side. I am guilty of all those sins and I can't do anything unless I have free time. Real life work and physical jobs always take up all my free time and even if I do have some, it would eventually end up to some personal stuffs. So it sucks but I guess that's just how things work.

Great advice as usual. I have to admit that I have committed the sin of not posting regularly before... It's just hard if you aren't writing about something that you're either very passionate about or making tons of money to motivate you. I often got distracted with other tasks and that was one of the main reasons why I became inactive on my blog. It's probably the most common sin.

Tronia,
Even when I am extremely passionate about a subject, I still find some difficulty, at times, writing about it. I think that my issue is more a question of discipline. I need to stay on top of my research, and I need to set up more definite writing times and reachable goals. I tend to distract easily, and that is not a good trait in this arena. However, I think I am starting to become more focused. It's easy to get distracted when you work on the web all day--this place is a world of infinite distractions, of course.

These are several key pointers to take note. Some niche areas do not need the help of influences if we can come out with quality content. I am trying to cut down on my text usage and implement the addition of more graphics and videos to make the blog less dull.

Very insightful and informative.Blogging like any other venture has its rules and if you don't follow it to the latter, you may not go far.If I may add don't steal contents because you would make your blog a dumping ground for junks.Be original and unique

Consistency is something many people are struggling with these days. I have found out that blogging does take some time to setup. And people do work out on many things. You just have to understand that if you are into affiliate marketing. You have to do a lot of work in order to properly make blogging work. Because that' show the money is generated. You have to make sure to get traffic.

If you are a freelancer working full time, you will have to give more time to the freelancing assignments that bring you quick money. Generating money from blogs is difficult even though it is more rewarding. Therefore, most of us forget out blogs and continue to work with clients. That's why we do not have consistency in posting on our blog.

Indeed freelancing clients take up a lot of time. And that means you are spending less time on your own blog. And that means your own passive income approach takes more time or say years to work out. And that cycle of working for someone else just continues to move away and goes ahead. So that needs to be considered too.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

If you do not have extra income source other than freelancing, you will have to concentrate on the projects that make you money instantly. That's why a lot of people work for clients and work on earning sites. However, if you do not have to depend on the money you are making from earning sites or freelance sites, you can take time to build blogs and websites.

Yes indeed. And the thing is one should be increasing the client fees too. I am currently struggling with that part. I have to work harder on the new fees structure. And get people to agree with that rate. So that I can get comfortable with the money and dont worry much about the freelancing.

I usually post on my blog only once or twice a week. I can't devote much time to my blog and that's the reason why I am not that successful. You have provided some very good tips. Quality articles having good titles will definitely attract more people to your blog.

What I have been doing wrong is number 1, that I do not post frequently enough although I use what I can to advertise my blog and I even promote my posts through various social media. I guess I will have to stick with posting frequently but it's really hard to find an inspiration and motivation to start writing. I'll try to settle with once a day posts again and I'll keep on doing this until I get results. Thank you for this post!

I think that seems to be the case with almost everyone these days. And you have to see how the content is what makes the google take a look at the site every now and then. You can also get some leads through the backlinks. But regular content is the way it can get traffic. I am struggling very hard on that too. Hopefully in future I can work around this.

Once again, some great advice here, but I am also guilty of not blogging enough lately. I had some good momentum going with my writing, but I recently did some traveling, and got way behind. I need to at least do it once a week, and now I am two weeks behind. I am going to set the goal to have a definite time every week when I sit down and do my blog. Thanks for this helpful post.

This guy is always giving great tips and advice. Thanks for all those. The visual part is a most, at least in my case. I'm a very visual person, and I love a site with proper images that catch my attention. Of course, is not like I like to see a photo album, but something that can guide you visually. Some blogs and forums have guidance videos, which are great to make their points clear, those are the ones that I'm talking about.

I agree with all of the five points especially the first one, Not blogging at all is a real waste! Before I start my first blog which was like a diary blog I used to think that blogging was a hard responsible and that was for professional writers only, I also feared the competitions out there but when I took it easy and started I blamed myself for not starting earlier but it's better done later than never.

Nice post.
But tell me did Harsh Aragwal follow all these steps? before he landed himself a $30.000+ per month income. all these things, guidelines, etc, are good but if you don't do it it's not actually a blogging sin, because it's not even a criteria for success, you will see some people who follow through this steps line by line, column by column, line and sinker but they wouldn't still make it in blogging.
What am i trying to say?. Find out what works for you and stick to it.

You basically summed up everything. I think the points about posting frequently and about not using enough visual stimulation is extremely important. If you know that you are not going to be at home then you need to make sure that you schedule your posts so that your readers are able to view and read content that is new at least every few days. If they keep visiting your blog and there isn't any new content then they may decide not to visit again and you will end up losing some loyal readers.

1. Not blogging at all or not frequently enough
Face it! Some days you're on fire! You can bang out several posts in one sitting. But you don't want to publish them all at the same time. I don't know what I would do without the scheduler or that feature that lets you add posts to a queue for later posting.

2. Not using what already works
I'm fine with Listed Content. But even though the other methods work, they don't work for me. Use what works for you.

3. Writing up boring content
My blog posts don't get a lot of comments. But I don't think it's because I'm boring the reader. But since they don't comment, I don't know! Don Don

4. Boring Titles
I'm thinking it was the title that attracted the reader. But a blogger friend suggested that I use a tool that helps me create headlines that attract. Are you familiar with such a tool?

5. Not connecting with the Influencers in your Industry
I could be wrong but I think the best networks for connecting with “influencers” is LinkedIn and Google Plus. It's just my opinion.

6. Ignoring Visual Stimulation
Visual stimulation has always been key for me. My late mother knew it. That's why she always gave me magazines with pretty pictures to keep me occupied while she worked! Don

If Pinterest hasn't taught you the importance of “visual stimulation”, then you better be a really good writer. The kind of writer that can create visual images in a person's mind when they read your words.

7. Not promoting your content.
Thanks to a lot of sites that have social sharing buttons, promoting your content via social media is simplified. The automation tools that facilitate posting like BufferApp, etc. also make promoting easier. Also, those sites that automate the publishing of newsletters and magazines are great for content promotion purposes. Other methods of promotion like eMail marketing, etc., take a little bit more effort; but they're doable as well. There really is no excuse to NOT promote your content.

Another great post
Razzy!

many people start blogging in a hope to generate residual income, however, they soon give up because they find difficult earn. If you want to become a blogger, you need to have patience. You will have to continuously work for months, even years to generate traffic and revenue.
Main people fail with blogging because they believe that blogging is all about publishing articles. Blogging requires a lot of skills like SEO and internet marketing.

Sometimes what slows me down is that my laptop often has “technical difficulties”. I just can't get things done because my laptop won't allow me to get things done. If I could wake up each day and not have any problems and my laptop moved faster, I could get much more accomplished.

I think many among us can churn out say 10 posts today. But tomorrow we are more likely to get burned out. And that approach or the routine is going to burn us even further. So that means we are going to be struggling even more further. So that is one thing where most of the time where I have seen that no amount of energy keeps us daily consistent at this.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
I see two major problems associated to writing too much. yes, we can easily churn out 10 articles in a day, however, it we are writing too much, we will reach a saturation point and will be unable to write. We also end up writing low quality articles. If you are publishing a lot of contents on your blog, you are of course providing fresh contents, however, this is a also a great turn off for your regular readers. People are not going to read all of your contents.

As always your articles are really helpful, thank you! I agree the worst thing you can do it's to not been consistent when blogging. These will lead you to failure. Also no knowing how to do the tittles can be the graveyard for a blog too, posting boring content is going to make you lose all those followers that were so hard to get in the beginning, so I think you couldn't have say it better!

I am forsure guilty of a few of these sins, but the one that hurts me the most is not blogging enough. But I hardly have any free time, I am married and I have real life activities and time just flies every day. And by the time it's time to sit down and rest for the night I am dead dog tired. And I am too tired to do anything, but I have been thinking about getting up a little earlier and blog before I start my day.

Guilty, your honor! These are great points as usual and I truly appreciate what I'm learning from this site through experts like you, Razzy, thank you! Articles like this truly inspire me to take blogging seriously and yes, it does take a lot to make a blog successful. I haven't really promoted my blog to social media friends in spite the share buttons on my blog and that means loss of hundreds, no, thousands, of potential readers and traffic. There's also a lot of wisdom in connecting with the influencers in the industry as this means sure traffic as I myself have seen with other niches. I realize that it is much better to network and share followers than simply compete with other bloggers on the same niche.

thanks for your tips. I think it is about time that I should change those boring titles to killer titles. In addition, I need to start sharing my 132 articles at social media sites, no wonder my blog traffic is so low.

Your point #1 is well taken. I have been visiting blogs and a blogsite with no update in a week would appear stagnating. On my second check after another week and still no update, I crossed out that blog on my list. But updating too often is like choking the reader with too much blogs. What I prefer is a once a week update or twice a week at the most. Readers need a respite too, you know.
