Have you found holding webinars effective?

I have heard so many contradicting things about Webinars that I am not sure if I should spend some time to learn how to hold a Webinar.

One common thing I hear is that holding a webinar builds authority, it creates interest and can also generate sales.

Then I hear the other side where people make jokes about free webinars, you know the posts on Facebook that do the rounds like "10 Fun Things to Do While Attending a Free Webinar".

I have also heard that there are loads of people that hold Webinars to try and market themselves and fail dismally, giving free webinars a bad name.

What has your experience, if any, been with Webinars?

I haven't attended a webinar before in the physical sense like going to San Francisco, but I have attended live video webinars in the past. I wouldn't really recommend anyone to attend one, because it's just a waste of time. What I have gotten from webinars was not knowledge but this:
  • People holding the webinars are egotistical a**holes
  • They are always pushing for the sale of products or services (so very annoying)
  • Sometimes they treat the audience like they are idiots, or don't know what they are doing
  • They try to be funny, and fail which makes it awkward to listen/watch
  • Sometimes you have to PAY for the webinar, like $97 for a seat.. don't waste your money it's not worth it

Yeah, not a very good experience..

LOL nicely put Everett, that is basically the feedback that I have gotten from people that have attended webinars. They said the free ones are just to push products on you and they draw them out and try fluff them up with nothing really.

But then I keep hearing everyone saying I should hold webinars to get my name out there. Well it seems I wont have to make this decision for a long time yet because I simply don't have the time.

I would suggest using periscope. I have seen some periscope streams with thousand of people attending and interacting. I think that webinars may be old news in todays world. In consideration of the fact that Twitter bought Periscope before they even launched. All because they want the live streaming video for the twitter feed. They can also monetize these streams by selling ads. All big social media sites seem to be pushing in this direction.

Yes Webguy2024 I have seen a lot of hype about live streaming now! I want to give that a go sometime for sure.

The one webinar I ever attended was a total waste of time. Since then I never attended any, as the webinar reputation has been tarnished ever since for me, so to speak. I think that generally speaking many people see webinars like me, and if I were you I would not devote time and effort on them, but opt for something else that is likely to be more effective.

I never understood webinars and online courses. 99% of them is regurgitated information found online! I even know loads of people that actually create online courses and sell them to suckers that actually believe they've found a guy willing to teach them how to exactly increase their traffic by 1000% in just two weeks.

I won't going to lie, I love watching courses and video made by real professionals, but most of them out there, especially the webinars, won't teach you something new that isn't already available online.

Yes that is what I am finding, everyone has the same information really. Yes I learn new bits and pieces all the time but there is nothing really like mind blowing that I have come across for a very long time.
