Dealing with skeptics. How would you handle the situation?

In freelancing, you are going to come across people who are skeptical and iffy with your ideas, and people who can be just impossible to persuade.

My question is, what is the best strategy to convince someone you are not a scam? Some people just do not budge without face to face contact and sometimes, it can be a bit more difficult to get them on board.

How would you go about changing a skeptic's mindset?

Any comments and tips? I would love to hear what you guys have to say

Well I can be quite skeptical about things... like this Steemit, I just don't get it.

I think it depends very much on the topic and of course the person.

For example MLM, there was a discussion about that recently here and I had my first experience of MLM in my early twenties and I will never ever deal with MLM again. The only thing I need to hear is MLM and I my ears turn off. Nothing will convince me to listen... so in that case I would be a waste of time if you tried to convince me.

I do believe I am open minded person in a lot of ways but there are just some things I am dead set against and won't look into.

Can you give some examples?

now do not get me wrong i can be skeptic myself there are plenty of things out there that i would not put any of my trust into but being that i am involved in freelance you know working with clients it can be hard to to work with the ones that are more skeptic like for an example i try to give evidence and show growth in business, show clients that i am really working and what i do is legit, i try to show my clients that my role is to provide a service it is not a scam i make sure everyone is taken care of.

Well I would certainly put a little effort into trying to help people understand what it is that you do and why it works etc but there comes a point where you should put your focus elsewhere!

Did you read one of the previous discussions about having a Diva Attitude? It was very interesting and I enjoyed it.

Maybe try a change in attitude, why do you need to convince them you are not a scam?

Maybe stop trying so hard Dealing with skeptics. How would you handle the situation?

I think lack of trust is everywhere it not about online transaction alone.

it become worst when it even online with lot of scammers to deal with.I think the best bet is to be honest to your clients and try to be honest at all times, so that you could get referrals from your initial clients and from there trust can be built.

We'll a lot of my buyers are skeptical because I'm only level 1. But being level one doesn't matter to me, I will still deliver a great product in less than 24 hours.
I'm finally starting to build my base of positive reviews and recs. But I usually have to offer a guarantee to get them on board. But after the first sale, there comfortable with me and usually buy again. It doesn't take much but I'm guessing the buyers just care about the security of there money.
I think it's different for every sale, depending on time aloted, and how the buyer interacts overall.

Working in the SEO and Online Marketing field we all deal with skeptics every day Dealing with skeptics. How would you handle the situation? I've had people contact me and want to talk over the phone, which isn't a problem at all. I've actually began talking to more people over the phone after I set up dedicated lines for each of my websites. I've noticed that I'm pretty good at closing the deal if I can get them on the phone lol.

The only downside of this is if someone is international. They may not like your accent and could assume you're a scammer just based on that. In the USA we get spam calls a lot from call centers located in India, so whenever we hear an Indian accent on the other side of the phone we assume the call is of no value to us. I'm sure there are a lot of countries that react the same way to certain accents over the phone, but for me it's an Indian accent. I'm not racist, I just get a lot of spam calls lol Dealing with skeptics. How would you handle the situation?

If a person is requesting a face to face meeting after you've talked for a while, you're almost guaranteed to close the sale. The skeptic on the other line wanting to meet up just wants to meet you in person to make sure you're who you say you are. I've closed plenty of monthly payment $1,500 deals this way just because I drove 20 to 50 miles to see them at their office. Now not all of these people will sign up, but the majority will Dealing with skeptics. How would you handle the situation?

My aunt is a complete skeptic and thinks all I do is steel credit card numbers and pay my bills with them lol Dealing with skeptics. How would you handle the situation? Some people you won't win over, even if you show them a step by step process and guarantee them a full refund if you don't provide what you said you would.

If I have someone wanting to sign up but they seem to be a complete skeptic, I know they're going to call me a lot in the first month. I have all my clients sign contracts so I'm safe from them complaining after just 30 days lol.

Yes many people are hard to convince and since they are skeptical it is even more difficult to deal with them online since they a re going to be even more skeptical. I believe the key is to show that you can be trusted. You need to demonstrate professionalism and reliability, and get them to feel at ease dealing with you. To do this you need to be courteous even when they are not, you need to be efficient and make sure you stick to deadlines, and whenever possible give them or show them a sample of your work or your portfolio.

Offering samples are one sure way that you can convince some of the sceptical you meet during the course of your online business and by looking at your works, they will be forced to believe that you're real. Also, you can offer to so some first few works for them free and see how it will go from there. It is not all that rosy working as a freelancer, but we've got no choice than to keep working towards our goals.

Skeptics are really hard to talk to. They will sometimes try to disprove to give themselves a feeling that they are right. Basically, you need to be transparent to them in providing information. In this situation, I provide both facts and testimonies. In doing so, you have to connect with them in this manner:

  • Don't show fear or get intimidated without being arrogant.
  • Never argue with them.
  • Show them that you know what you are saying.
  • Don't connect with cute stuff. It will obviously irritate them.
  • Edify them to decrease their defense mechanism.
Skeptics can be hard to deal with but once you are able to prove your sincerity and good intentions to them, they will most likely be your most loyal clients.

Convincing people with closed minds is not that easy to do. In fact, it is one of the hardest things to do that’s why I never bother to change their stance. You can see that in the field of politics. If they are for Trump then I don’t know how you can persuade them to turn to the opposition and vice versa. When dealing with skeptics I will just give them the standard spiel for my side. It’s up to them to be convinced or not.
