I'm sure as we go along, Google will start to express their preference from the perfectly optimized site. Right now, it might be too early to know just how much optimization you can do without it being overly optimized. For one thing, i am certain that Google is focused on quality content as being the key to good rankings. And, though some sites with massive backlinks are still ranking high, that might change over time.

I also agree with the quality content because you cannot over optimize with that. Maybe even if you will upload contents every day it will not harm the site with the search engines. My understanding of over optimization is keyword stuffing which means there are too many keywords that are scattered within the content and also the excessive backlinks that were posted on obscure sites.

Google discourages the purchase of do follow links on sites as they artificially manipulate search engine results. If you're found out, there could be trouble. Though many people still do it.

Yeah. A lot of people and site owner sell links privately, not publicly. And once you post that you are selling links with the URL of your site, you might face a drop in rankings..,.

Over Optimization happens when your website is considered "too good" by Google - either in terms of a sudden volume of backlinks, or because of heavy on-page optimization. In other words, if Google considers that your website optimization is beyond acceptable limits , your website will be red-flagged and automatically restricted or penalized.

Over Optimization is a condition which brings your website too much good to Google. There are often reports of sites that have been temporarily or permanently excluded from Google and the other search engines because of malpractice and using “black hat” SEO optimization techniques.
It may be because of over Keyword Density or Keyword Stuffing, Doorway Pages and Hidden Text, Duplicate Contents, Link Spam

Can be checked using by doing back link analysis, main domain level stats tool are available to check these. You can also check Site Link Analyzer. For Content spam and duplicacy use similar page checker. for Keywords use keywords density cloud

Is there really a thing called over optimization? For example, let us talk about contents because that is the primary factor in SEO. What if I would be uploading contents twice a week then that can be considered good SEO, right? But what if I would be uploading good contents every day or even twice a day, can that be construed as over optimization? Can you say that Google will penalize my website for being over optimized with that deluge of fresh contents?
