When hiring an admin, do you recruit from within your current mod staff? Or, do you ask for admin applications on other sites, such as recruiting from outside your current staff? What are the advantages or disadvantages of doing both?
I would not trust anyone to administer my site unless they had active hands on experience as a mod and long time forum member. An outsider could not be trusted with these duties.

If you want to ensure your admin does a good job, then you will cautiously promote them up through the ranks; allow enough time for the community to know and trust them and letting them learn the ropes of managing your unique forum.

A moderator would need at least a year of active duty on my forum before being allowed to be admin. There's no way I would just recruit an admin out of my ranks or off another forum who has no experience dealing with my community.
