What are some tips for running a Posting Competition?

So I have ran a few posting competitions on my forum, and im just about to start another one in the next week or so. I am just wanting some replies with tips I should keep in mind for running it, and also some new rules I should add for it starting. What are some tips for running a Posting Competition?

I've run posting competitions before and it always amazes me how popular these contests are. Some of my dormant forum members started posting again. There was a nice flurry of activity for the entire week of the competition. One of the things I would suggest is to keep any competition moderated well as you will get some new members (and even established members) posting junk threads and responses. It will take some serious effort to keep track of everyone posting. So you might want to include a competition thread where anyone who wants to participate posts their start post (or screenies and posts it on the thread) so you have proof of where they started. These are just a few ideas and others to start with.

Invite only select members of your forum to compete in the contest, such as those who are always active daily or weekly, rather than the occasional random (or new sign up), who is more likely to spam. This will generate more high quality posts from the people you want to hear more from, rather than posts from people you barely know on your forum.

This is food for thought only. I have encountered several posting competitions. I joined the first one in the hope of winning. But later, it dawned on me that the winner is the post which gets the most response. Oh, oh, that's red flag to me. For sure, the winner would be the one who's got the most number of friends in the forum. In effect, that's a popularity contest.
