Why you should publish great content to platforms like Medium and Quora
Many people out there are trying to boost their websites to the top of the rankings for difficult keywords but most of them are failing at one thing. They aren't posting enough content around the internet on 3rd party platforms to boost their backlinks, authority, and traffic.
Sure, you might be posting content to your blog here and there but not many of us are going out of our way to publish 100% unique content on 3rd party platforms to boost our own websites. The few of us that are doing this are ranking better than most, pulling in traffic, branding their websites, and are going to be more successful over time than the ones who are not.
They're established and trusted
Websites like Medium.com and Quora.com are trusted by Google and that means you'll get value from posting to them. You won't get a ton of value if you're posting 1,000 things a day, so try to limit your time there when searching to place links, but you should definitely participate and funnel people to your website through discussions
Since they're trusted and have a high DA, you will notice your links from them are going to help you out even if you're not posting to something that is specifically related to your business or website. You will get a big boost from a general link, and anchored link, or an image link compared to a small-time niche-specific website where you did a guest post. Yes, you should still get those smaller niche related backlinks because you never know how big those sites will get, but you shouldn't avoid sites like Medium.com or Quora.com since they're not specific to your site.
You can get traffic from your posts
One of the best things I've noticed from these platforms is that you can get traffic directly from them if your posts do well. You can get thousands of views for your post, get a ton of clicks, and turn those people into customers. If they don't turn into customers you can then retarget them and try bringing them back by advertising coupons or discounts
You can brand yourself as an authority
I love these types of platforms because you can brand yourself as an authority over time. If someone asks a question and you give them an amazing answer, they will trust you and likely look for your responses on other questions. If they ask a second question, where you're giving the best response again, you've instantly branded yourself in their eyes as the authority and they will come directly to you for their needs. This is where you start to profit, even more, get more traffic, and possibly get some referrals from the person you've helped
They will diversify your backlink profile
Every website that is successful has a very diverse backlink profile. If you were to look them up using Ahrefs you would see links coming in from all over the place, even Medium.com, and Quora.com, and that's because people talk about them there. This generates links for them from all over the internet, some good and some bad, but for the most part, it will help them ou.
You don't want to turn down a good link even if it's not related to your website. A good backlink will always help you out, even if it's not niche-specific, so be sure to get your anchors ready when a good backlink placement pops up and gives you a chance to drop a link lol.
I used to be a pretty active member on 3rd party platforms until I started bringing on team members to hunt down links like this. They could spend an entire day writing up content to place on Medium and answering questions on Quora and I wouldn't be the slightest bit angry. I know these types of links will always help out my website or a client's website, which is why I don't mind them building these for days on end, and I know my clients love all the traffic and sales as a result lol.
