Budgeting for this festive session

The biggest festive season of the year is here again. It's another season when impulse purchase catches up with me.The celebration mood boosts this habit of buying what I did not budget for.I once saw a man on television saying that  his son can not miss during Christmas is a balloon, the rest can be ignored.I wondered how he does it.
Do you find yourself  overspending during Christmas?

I want to have a budget for Christmas celebration. I need to prioritize first budget for food and gifts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Usually, that's my family priority too, specially food. We like to have a big special family dinner on Christmas eve and New Year's night, so we have to plan the menu and get all the snacks, drinks, strong dishes, and desserts. Gifts come in second place, because generally speaking we know what we are going to our relatives.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

menchuuy58
That is right. Budget for food comes first. It is good to celebrate Christmas around the table with all the family members present.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Christmas and New Year's dinner it's a family tradition. That's the moment where we give thanks for being there, and we share as a family. We usually have our country's typical food for this season, while we listen to the traditional music. So, that's why budget for food is the most important one.

Well, doing all those alone is very painful and I hope to have something like this soon just my family and a nice Christmas.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Agree. Sometimes people say they don't care, that it's just one night, and they really don't gather as family or friends. But in my case, that's completely the opposite, because gathering together during these holidays, is the way my parents taught me. I still don't have my own kids, or partner, but that's the tradition I will pass to them whenever I have them.

It's the food that makes every occasion special. This will remind us of the best memory of family gatherings. The funny and happy moments are cherished and forever be in our hearts. Preparing and Budgeting maybe tiresome but it's worth it when your loved ones' is enjoying.

Yeah that's true, travel is another vital thing to be added to our budget for Christmas, it is even a top priority in some countries where they leave their cities for greener pastures.

It always good to have a budget despite the period of the year.Hsving a budget have always helped one from overspending. It doesn't make sense to overspend.

Operating without a budget means that you have no plan and you might end up spending almost all that you have and being left broke in january.

Budgeting is necessary for this festive season but I find myself being carried away. I go overboard in my spending. After all it is the festive season

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It is always a choice and a decision if you go on overspending. As you long as you are happy and never regret it. I think it is fine. You can always find money but you can't buy happiness. Choose and spend wisely.

I already bought foods for Christmas just yesterday! I am so excited. The foods for Christmas cannot go wrong. I want to make something special for Christmas. After all, this only happens once a year. I'm thinking of making a food that my family hasn't tried.

Sometimes it's good to plan your Christmas celebration. Some people start saving money from the start of the year to fund their Christmas celebration. That was a good idea to have your desired celebration. That was also a big help to create more budget for the most awaited holiday of the year.

I am trying to budget my money this Christmas season as I know that we tend to spend during the month of December because of some celebration that we will be attending such as the Christmas party and so on. I am trying my best to have some budget for future expenses as I don't want to lose some money in times of great needs.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Somebody said that they make the Christmas budget early in the year to avoid overspending in the festive mood. They buy all commodities that does not get spoiled early and remain with only foodstuffs that can get bad. They purchase these in December.

Honestly, I usually having a trouble for my budget during this kind of season when you sure will buy a lot of stuffs including foods and services. Yes, not only for gifts and other material things. What I do during Christmas season is to do a list of most important things to buy first before others. I like giving gifts and other stuffs to my family and friends, that's why I usually end up so much broke at the end of the year. But it's fine as long as I am happy and satisfied. All that matters is the money I earned went to people who are deserving and deserve to receive a little gift from me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree. It is not bad to spend money for gifts and foods. I also think it that way, Christmas only happens once in a year. On that time, you can make your love ones how much you love them by giving them gifts. It doesn't matter how expensive it is, as long as you gave it wholeheartedly, they will still appreciate it.

The satisfaction that comes with Christmas is more than the debts and being broke. It is good to do good in his festive season. Joy is usually in the world at this time

One tip I can give is to write down your set budget on a piece of paper.
Below that you write down the names of the people you're going to give presents to.
If you already have an idea of what you wanna give them, you can write that down as well.
This is a good way of making sure you stick to your budget and also it will challenge you to not overspend.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Definitely a good tip. I really need some help about who I want to give presents, and what's exactly what I'm going to buy. So, that can be like a present list, I just keep myself to that list, and hope that it works properly, and helps me get just in my budget.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

knnon
You should also list the cost of each present that way you can calculate how much money you have left for the other gifts.

With kids it's easy. I have to give over 20 children gifts because I have a lot of cousins and they have a lot of children, lol! What I do about their gifts is I buy like a care package of snacks for them; biscuits, chocolates, candy, and a small toy. I wrap them up, and that's what I give them. They're happy getting one since it's foods they rarely get to buy and enjoy.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Wow! that's a lot of cousins for sure hahaha. Well, that's pretty clever, you can make little bundles of candies, and that's a nice detail. Also, what kid doesn't like chocolates and candies right? I'm considering to do something similar with my cousins and god-sons, it's cheaper, and they will love it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

knnon
Last time I even packed them in a cute paper bag. Just put maybe 2 biscuits in there, 3 chocolates, maybe a pack of chips, and a small toy and you're all set. It's definitely cheaper and with kids getting the same thing there wouldn't be any arguments between them saying whose gift is better.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
You got me on that one. Kids arguing about whose gift is better, is totally annoying. So far, I have cute plastic bags, some lip balms for the teens, crayola items for the boys, chocolate fun sizes, cookies, and I think I'm going to add some mac and cheese frozen edition hahaha, they really like it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

knnon
Wow you're all set already! I should get started on mine but I've been so busy! I wonder if I can order anything online LOL! Those sound like fun gifts. I'm sure the kids will love them! Did you spend more or less on them?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

stbrians
Very vital this here. I did not know that. Let me try that one out now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

knnon
This is a tried and tested method. I've been doing this for years and it has never failed me. Oh and another tip, you can add a few more hundreds for a "just in case" the money isn't enough. Let's say your set budget is around 1,500, you can add at least 200 or 300 for emergency purpose. You'll only spend that if you really need to but if you don't need it then it goes back to your wallet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Jelineex
Even without Christmas holiday it's good to have a budget . It will help us survive in the next day expenses. It's a matter of self discipline. We need to spend wisely and save for tomorrow. It's better to write all the goods that you prefer to buy to control over spending. I guess, the kids association for Christmas is balloon. It was imposed by his father that's why he doesn't care.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
It’s a good point you make there, that a budget is useful no matter the time of year. That’s important to remember. One of my goals for the new year is to have a more well defined budget and save more money. I’m going to take some time this month to write out my budget plan.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Jelineex
It's a always a good practice to budget everything because our money is not always enough for our needs and wants on daily basis. It will make us struggle for nothing. We must value our hard earned money and spend it wisely.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
True. More than just discipline, it's an issue about being a conscious person. If you don't handle your expenses properly, you will have a big trouble if an emergency comes out. I've had to learn that in a hard way, because we have priorities and we can't avoid them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Jelineex
Discipline is always important in our life. We can never achieve our desires if don't have discipline in ourselves. Temptation is hard to resist. We need to stand on what is good for us the best way we can. I agree with you, when it comes to emergency. These is a circumstances that we don't expect to happen and we don't provide allocation for this matter. It is always better to be ready all the time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Well, when something unexpected happens, and you aren't prepared, that's when the big issue begins. So, since a bad situation I had some time ago, I tend to have some savings, money that's untouchable under any circumstance, unless there's a real serious emergency. That's what have saved me a lot of times. It's better to have it and don't need it, than need it and don't have it right?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Jelineex
Yes, it's always good to be prepared all the time. To have a little comfort even in crisis period. We don't know what our future is but we must be ready for it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

A budget assists us in life. We know exactly hiw much money we shall spend and on what. It also helps us make provision for saving.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Alania
As a matter of fact, no. We share a common family budget, and we always maintain it together (me and my husband). We understand that money comes off as a result of a hard work, and even though I bring only passive income to the household, we still noticed that during holidays we spend the least amount of money. Simply because when we need to buy something we do it immediately, and we don't use the holiday as an excuse to do so.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I really try not to overspend. I usually try and save up gift cards throughout the course of a year so that I don’t actually have to use credit cards. I don’t like bringing debt into the new year with me!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Totally get you. As I said before, our priority is the food because that's a need. I have forgotten the regular bills, those don't take holidays and keep coming straight to me. And, for sure I have to spend some money in presents at least for the kids, not my own but my God-daughter and God-son, they're good kids, and they deserve at least a little cute detail.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes! I already did. I already bought the Christmas presents and more. Because almost everything is on sale. Most of my purchases are not for myself. Most of it is for my loved ones and friends. I love buying presents for them. It sort of becomes my happiness if I give them something.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I'm just like you. I always buy gifts, presents, details, for everybody else but me. First ones are the kids, my little cousins and god-son/god-daughter, then my family and friends, and I'm always the last one. Well, I like to make them happy, and I get happy too.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I'm in the bad habit of doing this. However this year I don't have a lot of money to spend on christmas and christmas presents so, I will have to budget to the maximum. Normally by this time of the year I have stopped working and I'm resting waiting to enjoy the holidays. However this year I plan to work until the 20th of December and have only one week off. I hope next year I have the money to over spend, Lol!

Budgeting for this festive season: During this holiday season the budgeting is really exist to almost everybody especially to those who used to do some unexpected every holidays. In my family we prioritize more the foods and giving gifts that we can only afford we don't expect too much interms of gift, even we haven't recieved gifts for us it doesn't matter at all, it was not that big deal as ling as we are together then nothing can compare to that gift we recieved.

My parents can only earn what we need so we always have to make good use when it comes to budget. During this season, in our country, we have a lot of bonuses we can get from our work and because of that we tend to think that it is okay to spend and spend it anywhere. But my parents are not like that. They always think to save up money because they don't want us to be festive full today and then hungry tomorrow.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Alania
I understand you completely. There's no need to waste the entire budget just for the heck of festivity. I understand them perfectly, because we're pretty much the same (although we do manage to save up some money yearly). A good holiday is an every day holiday. Gotta think about tomorrow as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Being practical with spending is important, especially if you have a family to take care of. As a parent myself I would never want to spend frivolously and then have to worry about where our money was coming from to pay for food, bills, clothing and so forth. Not worth being frivolous only to increase your stress level.

I overspend every single Christmas. There are parents, siblings, nephews, nieces and on and on to buy gifts for. You can't buy for one and not buy for another or that will cause a family feud of epic proportions. Christmas is only once a year so why not indulge?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I'm not an implusive buyer at any time. I still maintain decorum anytime I need to spend because if I'm not in control of it,I might not be able to have a balanced financial life where I have to control both my expenses and income. I still budget for the festive period and only lived by the budget.

If you set a budget for the whole year I think it certainly helps in making the festive season not feel so daunting. If you’re bad at budgeting or usually overspend it becomes much more likely that the same will also occur during the Christmas period.

If money is not a problem in budgeting, I would give food and money for the less fortunate this Christmas. I would give to those who are in prison, orphaned and home for the aged.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I used to do that some years ago. I joined a group of friends from college, we gathered money and toys, and we went to Children's hospital. We even took a guy dressed as Santa Claus, who was giving the toys to the kids. That's amazing, to see their faces and joy when they get a present. I would like to do it again, because even it's a small help, you're making a difference for those kids.

This is such an important part of the Christmas spirit. I also think of people have the time, volunteering on Christmas can be really special. Many homeless shelters and food kitchens have a desperate need for help over the festive season, and helping those less fortunate is a very humbling feeling.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Honestly, it feels really good. Every year, we used to make this gift sharing like a tradition. We also brought some soup for the parents, because they were there taking care of their kids, and some were unbelievable poor, and couldn't afford a decent meal. You could see how thankful they were, and also the joy of the kids, and you being a part of it, was so rewarding.

Making a budget for your expenses this Christmas season is good. It can give you the privilege to stay on track and know your priorities. However, no matter how hard you try to budget your money this season, you can't deny the fact that there was always something that you can't resist to buy. You should allot some for the unexpected expenses. Nonetheless, Christmas season is all about sharing and giving.

Like the song says Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. It's called the Holidays because it's the allotted time for people to relax and enjoy after a year of hard work. And that usually means spending lots of hard earned money. You just can't enjoy Christmas without spending.

I think my personal budget goes out of hand when it comes to the festive season. You can see that budgeting is always a good idea and people should be following that. You can have apps like "youneed a budget". And those type of apps and cashback offers sites are going to be helping that too. You may see that festive season we focus on what we can give to others.

It is really hard for me to budget now since there is a strong need for me to buy some important things this Christmas and I have no choice but to use the money that I have saved from my freelancing activities to buy all the things that we really need for the Christmas preparation. Maybe after Christmas is that I will try again to save more and try not to spent it not unless it is very important and urgent since it is very hard to earn some penny these days that I should make it a priority to save as much as possible.

You can also do what I have started doing. I start to buy things for christmas months before. I slowly come up with my list a few months after christmas and by the time august comes around I start the shopping process. It saves you time because you don't need to join the Christmas rush and also it is easier on the budget to not to buy needs for this season within a small timeframe.

I tend to go over my budget on gifts. I am a picky shopper, when I shop for myself I have this high standards for the things i buy and unfortunately I cannot turn that off when buying for other people. The only solution I thought of was to save much more for gifts so that II would be ready when this season comes.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

@JBeleren Yes that is really true and I agree with you, maybe in the next coming Christmas season I will try to adopt such strategy so that I can save more time and money from it. It is really hard to go with the Christmas rush with other people since sometimes most items during Christmas season is increasing which could be troublesome as I would be paying for more that I should had been save before. Thanks for the good tips and suggestion, I would surely take a look on it so that I can make my Christmas season more happier and wonderful.

It's so easy to overspend during Christmas! I have to buy a lot of gifts for a lot of people, I suddenly find a lot of things I can buy for myself, and almost every store has a big Christmas discount sale going on. However, as I don't want to blow a hole in my pocket, I try my hardest to stick to my planned budget! I really spend time planning my expenses beforehand just so I don't accidentally spend all my earnings in December.

I usually try and set a dollar figure to spend for each person I need to shop for. Having a ballpark figure means I’m more likely to be able to stick to my budget. For my nieces and nephews for instance we try not to go over $30 per child otherwise it just gets ridiculous.

It was hard for me when it comes to budgeting your money when christmas season comes specially when you got your christmas bonus and 13th & 14th month pay. It was like being a day millionaire that I will buy everything I want but this is the only time but I buy those new items that I wish to have and it is also the time for spending for some gifts you want for your love ones. This is also the time to buy those grocery goods for christmas eve. This is the only time that I spend too much and I don't buy those things in my wishlist when it was just normal season and I also consider what is the most needs or it was just your wants. I don't regret when I am spending too much when christmas as long as I am happy with it.

Doing all work and no fun is like saving without spending and to me that's a recipe for burn-up. This Christmas Season it's very hard to stick to ones budget because it's the most festive time of the year. I usually spend more than my monthly earnings every December. So that means tapping my savings or buying on credit.

I think the festive season is the time when people are in a very celebratory and happy mood. Most of us do overspend during this time and we realise it after the festival season is over. I think that Budgeting your expenses before the Festival season and trying your best to follow that when you are shopping is the best practice to follow in order to limit the overspending.

December is the month of the year where my budget is off by a mile compared to the others. You see, I have a lot of godsons and goddaughters and saying no to them when they come breaks my heart. So yeah.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I know right? I have exactly the same issue. Besides my godsons and goddaughters, I also have some little cousins, and that means a bunch of kids on Christmas. So, usually my expenses tend to go over the limit, and then I end up in crisis. This year, I took a great tip here, and I'm going to give them nice bags full of candies, chocolates, cookies, and adding a little extra detail, like lip balms, hair accessories, crayola items, or little puzzles. That way my budget will suffer less, and they all will have a Christmas detail.

I have to make a list by November so I wouldn’t miss anyone in my list of gifts. It is sad that I would remember a name and the occasion is already over that I forgot to give a gift. Anyway, the list would include the appropriate gift and the amount of budget. It is silly not to indicate the amount of budget because there is a tendency to overshoot and it will make me financially lame after the holidays.

We just finished our Christmas Shopping and we went over our budget and used credit on some of our purchases. It's only the 17th of December and there's 2 more weeks to go. Although we've covered everything but I do think other expenses would come up in the next two weeks.

Most definitely yes! I really tend to spend a lot of money when Christmas comes. I mean, I love spending money and buying things. But you got to buy presents for everyone and that may just be expensive. For example, your brother/sister maybe likes some expensive toy and you practically got to buy it because you know what he/she likes. Christmas season is a little bit of a burden for a home budget because everyone buys presents for everyone. But people are happy when you buy them some things and that is the only thing that matters. To be happy.

Christmas is a magical time, but every time it arrives my wallet starts to shake: gifts, family reunions, dinners, trips... So many things I want to spend money on, so very little money. The first thing I always do at this time is to get organized: I take out the calculator and set the maximum amount of money I can spend at Christmas. I make a rough estimate of what I can spend on everything - I divide my funds into gifts, dinners, and trips, for example - and it's much easier to get an idea of what I can afford.

Christmas season is a month of festivity and we could not miss on some important event being celebrated during this time. While it pave ways for us to enjoy and be merry together with our love ones. It is undeniably true that this is one of the most expensive month where we need to spend a lot of purchases for groceries, gifts and the likes. Budgeting well not come easy for those who are not used to it and we might just have to find our pocket completely raided without us knowing it right away until we do. This Christmas I intend to budget in order to avoid overspending as I did the last time.

I would save up for a budget to use on christmas to buy food and gifts for everyone. And add a quarter of my one month salary to the budget. I will make sure I have enough and not spend beyond my budget. Christmas season is a season for giving and recieving but you have to set limitations and have a budget set to your lifestyle. We cant just spend everything for christmas and have nothing the following year. Be smart and wise in spending.

You will find yourself overspending if you do not plan first before going on a mall or stall. You will also be always attracted and tempted to buy stuffs you don't need but gets your attention because of it's Christmas theme design or use. If you have a list and fixed budget, you can avoid this but it is better if you could have at least one item that you really like that is not included on your budget list just to satisfy your craving.

I think it's hard to budget money this festive festival because it's so many delicious foods that can be sold in some store which give me chills and crave in every food that I see I'm a food lover person and all I want for this festival is food lol maybe I should budget sometimes hahahahaha.
