Making money online isn't difficult if you do proper research first
Everyone is trying to make money online with their websites, blogs, forums, or anything else you can think of where they can put a "buy now" button. The problem is people that rush into a niche and put up a website likely aren't doing the proper research beforehand and will close up shop because they can't afford to keep it open.
If you're trying to make money online, you'll quickly figure out that your research habits will either make or break the bank, and the better you get at researching the more money you will make. Not many people tell you how do the proper research, so I hope this discussion will help you out a bit, but that's no excuse for you if you just jump in before figuring out anything you're getting into
Do the research before even buying a domain name
If you bought a domain before you did any research, you're likely going to be annoyed when it's a difficult niche and you won't make much money. You'll probably put a website on that domain, push it for a little while, but quickly realize you're in over your head because you want to make money as soon as you can online.
Do your research first, purchase a domain when you're absolutely positive you want to get into a niche and be happy you're not wasting your money
Understand how long it will take to rank your website
On average it takes around 6 months to rank a new website in a low to medium difficulty niche, and that's not even that long compared to difficult niches that take years sometimes If you can't wait a minimum of 6 months to rank your own website, you might not be cut out for the "make money online" industry, and you might want to start looking for a new job
Knowing how long it will take to rank your website is pretty basic research. If you know an estimated time frame, you will be able to adjust your goals, and you will be happier if you hit your goals before you thought you would be able to achieve them.
Can you afford a PPC campaign in your niche right away?
Most of the time someone will get into a niche because they hear it's a good one that can make them a lot of money. The bad part of this is the PPC campaigns tend to cost a lot more due to the bigger corporations spending mountains of money in order to brand themselves, get clicks, and just take over as much as possible.
If you can't compete in the PPC realm for your industry, you might want to look for something else to target, because you'll never be able to see how profitable you actually can be if you're never getting paid traffic to your website.
How big are your competitors and can you overtake them easily?
Some niches are easy to take over while others are extremely difficult and that's because some niches have billion dollar corporations employing SEO and PPC teams to make everything perfect. If you think you can fight them on an even playing field, good luck, but it probably won't happen because you're just one man or a small team.
Smaller niches are easier to take over because they tend to have fewer competitors, and the industry just doesn't make as much as the bigger ones, but there is a slim chance that you could actually find a big niche that is easy to take over. If you're doing the right research you might be able to find these niches and start making money sooner rather than later with SEO alone
If you're doing the right research to figure out what niches are worth getting into you will make more money quicker and spend less on websites that will fail. You will also know how much it costs to get into PPC campaigns and be competitive without killing your profits. Sometimes you may even find a massive niche that is easy to take over because the big dogs don't do much SEO or even a little bit of PPC, which leaves it open for you to jump in and get traffic right away
