5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent

When you become complacent, you are getting too comfortable with your situation, and this could actually be a negative thing if you're running a business.  Business owners around the world tend to get complacent after they become successful, this is because they have teams doing the work they use to, and now they don't have to focus on what needs to be done.  Companies go under all the time due to management and owners getting complacent, it's not actually a secret, it's the truth behind complacency.  If you become complacent, you're giving your competition the chance to over come you with their own success and that means they could be taking your customers.

Complacent doesn't sound like a negative word, but if you're running a website or company, you need to see it as a business killing word.  Do you think Google would be where they are today if they got complacent after they got the market share of searches each day?  Do you think technology would be where it is today if everyone was like "Well, this is good enough, time to stop advancing!"?

Becoming complacent means you're given up and you're happy where you are at in life right now.  That's fine if you don't rely on your own actions to bring in clients, but most of us have to work to make money, so get out there and get to work lol.  In this discussion I'll go 5 reasons becoming complacent is a horrible thing when running a business.

Your sales will begin to slip
When you become complacent, your sales will eventually begin to slip due to you not investing as many hours as you normally did prior to becoming comfortable.  Sales are what make you successful, and they're hard to come by if you essentially give up on your business and let them slip away.  You'll begin to get some negative reviews because of you becoming complacent, and that's because your normal 8 hour response time is not 4 or 5 days, which isn't a good thing at all.

Your loyal clients will begin to leave for your competition
Loyal clients want to be able to talk with you whenever they need to, but they won't always contact you, they just need to know they can.  If you avoid their phone calls, they will begin to cancel their accounts with you or not sign up for another contract, because they will be moving over to your competitors who are responding to them.

Clients want to know you're running your business and advancing it as much as possible to be successful.  If you become complacent, you won't be pushing as hard as you could be, and your overall business model will begin to suffer because of it.

Your rankings will begin to slip in the search engines
One of the business killers is when your rankings begin to slip.  This can happen for many reasons, but it usually happens when someone thinks their rankings are solid at the top so they stop publishing content or building backlinks from niche related websites.

Becoming complacent will definitely hurt your rankings because you're not investing time into your own SEO and marketing, which will not only hurt your rankings, but diminish your sales at the same time.  Your rankings will slip, which means your sales will take a hit since your not at the top anymore bringing in new customers.  Your marketing will produce less because you're just not doing is as often as you should, resulting in less sales.

Negative words could be said about you and your company
If you become complacent, your clients might tell people online that you're an unresponsive company and others should avoid you.  They will post their experience with you, and that could be a negative thing if you're too complacent because you think everything is going well.

Reviews can kill a business, so don't be complacent, start doing the work and help out your clients whenever you can 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent

You could have to close up shop
The killing blow of complacency is when you have to close your business and work for someone else.  We get into entrepreneurship because we want to make money and not work for anyone else, so don't get complacent.  Complacency is something that hurts you when you have something to do each and every day, especially if you're doing research and development.

The difference between shutting down a website because it's not performing well and closing a website due to becoming complacent is that you tried with one and gave up with another.  Becoming complacent is like giving up, so don't do it if you want to be successful online 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent

In conclusion
Becoming complacent is tough to avoid, we all fall into it from time to time, but what makes you strong is if you can break it and become productive in a short amount of time.  You can't be complacent and successful at the same time unless you have a super successful business that is run by teams of people.  Most of us don't have these teams to do the work, so we have to, and becoming complacent can be a killing blow to our careers.  Get to work, make some money, and become successful while avoiding complacency 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent

I am never complacent. I am always unsatisfied with my achievements. My unsatisfaction always helps me aim higher and achieve higher. If you are complacent about what you are achieving, there will be no room for improvement. Even though I am earning satisfactorily, I am not satisfied with my earning, I am always looking for the ways to earn more. Even though I am receiving moderate traffic, I am not satisfied with my traffic and I am always looking for the ways to improve traffic.
PS: so, you have a new name now. Is this your real name. I also liked your new profile photo. I have been reading your posts since a long time and they have helped me learn so many new things.

That's actually a good thing 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent Not being satisfied with your earnings, while earning enough to pay your bills and still pushing yourself to do better, is a great way to become successful online 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent

I'm similar, I don't think my profits are enough and I always push myself to do more. I've started plenty of websites to bring in cash, some work better than others, but they all bring in some clients each month 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent Over time, I should have 1,000 websites bringing in at least one sale a day haha 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent (not really).

Yes, changed my User Name because I'm branding it from now on. I have my own writing service up and running, and it will be easier to show potential clients a profile that has the name "TommyCarey" compared to if I were to show them a profile named "Razzy" lol 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent

Tommy Carey is my actual name and that is actually me in my profile picture 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent I was at a wedding with my lady and we had someone take a picture of us 5 horrible things that can happen if you get complacent

I don't think any freelancer is ever happy with what they're earning, when the possibility of earning more always exists.

That's true. If you remain satisfied with your earning, your chances of earning more are almost nil. You will have to constantly think about how to make more. You should never reject job opportunities even if you already have a lot of assignment. You never know whether you will earn as much as you are earning now, therefore, think about "more" is what a freelancer should always consider.

You are right with being complacent that you will not achieve your dreams. There is an idiom about being complacent which is about resting on your laurels which means when you achieve success you quit doing the hard work. I actually encourage enjoyment in life but being complacent is a different thing because it is tantamount to indolence which a freelancer cannot afford to be.

About online business or online based work we have to stay 100% accuracy. Without 100% accuracy- we will not be able to stay work on here. One bad recommendation is enough to make you far distance from your business. By getting one bad talk you will get enough trouble. Here 100% carefulness is very much necessary.

Thanks

I think there's a difference between complacency and staying steady. After you've built something or redesigned it, you should let it breathe for awhile. Constantly overhauling your blog or website, can run customers away. There's a way to remain active and avoid 'slacking off' or slowing down, yet at the same time keeping and maintaining the familiarity of your online space.

In this fast paced world, being complacent for a moment will become disastrous to your company or your work. I think it's important to know when you should innovate and work through things in your business or work in order for you to stay at a level so that you can work your way up again. For me, it should be a pattern so as not to confuse people that you keep changing. You also have to be consistent and you have a direction. But when you sometimes fall short for a moment, I think it is best to learn more of your craft and study it how to apply this new learning. The world is constantly changing, the only constant in our world is change.

I think there is also one more thing it can be described. I guess it is form of a "comfort zone". And we have to understand how to get the most out of such zone. I think for this reason it can be a growth killer. You have to understand that some of the time such mentality needs to be properly arranged. And one has to focus on what they can get out of the most. So if that part is handled then surely you can understand where to and not to put the money.

Comfort zones are fine, just as long as while you're enjoying the fruits of your labor you don't forget to STAY, hungry. That means keeping what you're doing right on track, and improving on the gaps or weaknesses within your current strategy. While in your spare time, developing new strategies and methods of earning and completing sales.

Yes, I don't think resting on your laurels is ever appropriate. I think that you need to always think about improving the bottom line and doing your best for your customer. It is just one of the ways to stay at the top of your game. Look at Amazon, they are always doing, and always innovating, Apple, Microsoft, all of the big companies constantly are looking for new horizons.

Just like what happens when you take your foot off the gas when driving, the vehicle must definitely slow down by all means necessary, there is nothing propelling it to move further and faster because of taking foot off the gas that moves it forward. The same thing is applicable when you get complacent with your work as a webmaster, the life long success and achievement you have got your forum or blog or website to rank, will slip up and be reduced to nothing.

If it's on real business, once you drop in marketing, improving on the quality of the product and services you provide, the impending result which is inevitable is the drifting of your business customers to your immediate competitors, and you cannot blame them because everyone look at getting the best deal for their money or anything products they patronize.

No matter if your website is getting a good number of hits every day, you should be on your toes and always thinking of ways to improve your business. Even in offline stores, they have the regular sales to attract new clients and if the business remains slow, they hold special sales just to stir awareness of the public to their store. A website can always do that. Maybe holding a contest or a sort of competition can serve as an attraction for new followers and awaken the existing followers.

We are only human, we will go through this status every once in a while, I think the next thing we should discuss is how to prevent this kind of state of our mind. We all know the effect of being a complacent, we all know that we have to pay the price at the end, but that's just isn't enough for me. Most of the time I feel complacent after I achieve what I worked hard for or my short term goal. I heard a saying " when things are going good that is when I get knock down," I don't know where I heard it from but that is the perfect way to describe my situation. If there's anyone who can help me or give some link where I can get free advice I want to say thank you in advance.

Yo can never be too complacent in any situation regarding your business. You should always be aware of the daily happenings and you should also have planned contingency measures for any emergency. Also you should keep tabs on your competitors and also the latest news and trends relative to your business, as the saying goes "knowledge is power".
