How do you track traffic to your website or blog?

I use different traffic tracker widget to track external traffic to my blog site.. I find that Traffic Estimate is a cool tool for my blog. It helps me to scan the daily chart and where the sources come from. Very useful tool that everyone should try.

So, what widget or tool do you use to track your web traffic?

My blog service comes with an analytic tool which makes it very easy to track. i can track the number of hits at my blogs by day, week, month, year, and "all time". I can also see which regions and countries the visitors are coming from and what devices or services which that are using to access my blogs. This is really awesome because you can start to really observe and track target markets through the patterns inherent in the statistics. I really do enjoy checking these stats, but sometimes it can be a bummer when you see them shoot down on the graph. Still, when you are getting a lot of hits, you can see this in the stats, and you can look and see what you must've been "doing right' and then try to do it again!

yeah, when you see the chart arrow goes down, you feel low, that is why traffic tools are good, motivate you to strive harder.

I totally agree! I start to analyze the downward spike--I also always analyze the upward spikes too. These tools are sometimes hard to break down, but I have noticed that some topics of discussion at my blogs are more popular than others, so I try to pay attention to this, to a degree. I can't just cater to the numbers, but I can be strategic in how I use this information, so I try to be smart about that. At the end of the day, no matter how the arrow plunges or ascends, I have to be true to myself and my content!

I have read in another forum that tracking the traffic to your website is one important aspect in marketing because once you determine where the bulk of traffic is coming from then you can re-style your marketing approach to suit the origin of traffic. I had read in one discussion that the bulk of traffic of his site was coming from Africa and he is wondering why it is so.

I use Google Analytics at the moment to track traffic that comes to my website. It is great because of much analysis you can do with all the information that you can get from Analytics. It can track so much different things and it's just so good especially to help you with different marketing tactics.

Agree. The Google Search Console allows you to monitor the Google search traffic. Even though I don't know quite how to fully utilize the tool, I do know that it collects the necessary information for me to know how well my site is doing and where it can be improved.

Yes, it is probably not necessary to re invent the wheel when you have something like Google analytics that is readily available. I think it is just one of the best ways to be able to use it to count your traffic.

Google search console is not meant for traffic. it's meant for the keyword and the post specific keyword tracking. Google analytics is the place where you can find the real traffic details. And for that you have to add the javascript code of the google analytics during the setup. And that onwards you can track the traffic to your website here. That's how it works for many people.

Thanks, I will try using Google Analytics, I can see the resources and traffic from there too.

I'm not sure what software you use but if you use Wordpress then you can actually connect it your Wordpress installation. That way you can see all your Google Analytics information on your Wordpress site dashboard without having to leave your site at all. I can't remember what the plugin was called but it should be easy to find it How do you track traffic to your website or blog?

Yes a lot of data is being visible from there. You can also track which pages are getting. And which pages are getting nothing. So on that basis, you ca decide what to do and what not to do in that case. I have tried to make use of it in almost every one of my projects. And it's a good practice so far.

I created a WordPress website and provided at least an article on it daily. Not only that, I made sure I keep my audience engaged and post replies to their comments on a daily basis. Furthermore, I advertised my website on Google AdWords, Facebook ads and posted articles at forums and chat groups. I equally used up to five different social networks including Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

Dear Potentialwriter,
which social media helped your traffic to boost up? I had tried 5 different social medias but only stumbleupon and Google plus helped my blog traffic

It's difficult because you have to know what you are doing and it's not easy to find the right way to promote across the social media sites you have been using. One method might work on Google Plus for example but you may have to incorporate a different marketing strategy for Twitter or Facebook. I haven't had too much of a success with social media either but it's important to not give up.

Dear @DarthHazard
I agree that Google Plus is a great social site to help our blog to work out well. Twitter and FB do not give me much traffic yet. Maybe for those with lots of followers, they will see the difference.

I am surprised that the stumbleupon and the google plus are working for you. I have found those social media sites to be slow performer and also analytics wise they can be really hard to properly monetize. And that is another reason I'd say that blog needs to be trying all possible sources. Just make sure you are going to be earning from the same.

On my blog now, I just look at it, but I used to use a counter from feedjit because it was rather useful to see where the traffic was coming from and the time of day they were on the site.

Dear kgord
Yes, I also use feedjit in my another recipe blog. I could see who the people had came to my blog and what time. Very useful tool.

Google Analytics of course. I consider no better tool out there! I find it weird that are people out there using anything else than GA. I personally just don't trust other metrics, most of the will usually show a large amount of traffic and won't filter spam as GA. Plus Google Analytics is developed by Google and improved over many years, it simply more than just a traffic tracker, you can measure demographics, conversions, link it with other tools like Adwords and much more.

Same here, Google Analytics is the best bet, you get to see how your website or blog is doing, you don't see the traffic rate even the bounce rate is also tracked,so one gets to see the rate people leave one's site in a jiffy.Somone introduced jetpack to me but I think google analytics does the best job.

Google analytics is a good way for tracking traffic to your blog. And you just have to use the javascript added to the header or footer of your website. And then from here onwards you can easily add the code. There are some plugins on wordpress that you can use. Also you can make use of the code if you have the HTML page. That always works as well.

The platforms I use to track my site traffic are Google Webmaster tool and Google analytics. I enabled and activated these great traffic tracking tools right from my WordPress admin control panel and visit each of these tools daily to track my site traffic. These tools have been so useful and efficient for me and they are, indeed, the best traffic tracking tools.

Google webmaster tools is know Search console. And it adds no value on the tracking and analytics side. I think you can take a look at the statcounter and Google analytics. Not using google webmaster tools aka search console, it has no issue on the stats side.

I use Google and Jetpack. It is interesting to compare, and weird that Google tends to show higher traffic than Jetpack. But, I assume it is caused by people blocking 3rd party cookies.

Is jetpack used for wordpress? Do you prefer blogger dot com or wordpress? I was thinking of transferring one of my blog at blogspot to wordpress

Like the first comment states, my blog service comes with those kinds of tools. I use blogger by google so I don't have to worry much about tracking traffic and all that. Google Analytics does all that for me.

Google Analytics is a free service that provides you with a graph showing how many people visited your site. The tool also lets you see which pages visitors clicked, how many unique visitors went to your site, and information on where the most people entered and exited. It's not nearly as advanced as other apps in this roundup, but it's certainly the easiest to use. If you want something simple and accurate, Google Analytics is for you.

Dear @azsdpa12
Thanks very much for your advice. I find the Google Analytics is not bad either. The keywords used in my blog also help the traffic too.

I also use Google Analytics because it's very in-depth tracking I can see what pages my visitors use the most. And I can see where my traffic is coming from and I can see search engine results. And truth be told my traffic is rather dismal right now and its depressing but I am not about to give up, I work on my website every day and I know that it's going to pay off sooner or later.

I simply use 2-3 methods to track the traffic that comes to my website. These include Google Webmaster tools, Google Analytics, and Sitemap. Most website owners run online business without taking those parameters into consideration. By tracking the traffic that comes to your website, it enables you to know your site performance on search engines and further things you can do to improve overall site performance.

I use Google Analytics and also Adsense tracks some traffic behavior but not as good as analytics. These are what I tend to use on a daily basis as it also shows you live traffic which is happening as you are on analytics shows where they are and how long they are on your website for.

I am not the admin of the blog that I was writing for but I think it is Google Analytics or something. From what I know, the traffic is analyzed every week so the trend is established relative to the demographics. I don’t know why the origins of the traffic is important but it’s not for me to question that because I was only a co-blogger and my duty is only to submit blogs for publication.
